1983 PBA Open Conference
The 1983 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Open Conference was the third and last conference of the 1983 PBA season. It started on August 28 and ended on December 1, 1983. The tournament is an Import-laden format, which requires two imports per each team. Format The following format will be observed for the duration of the conference: * Double-round eliminations; 14 games per team; Teams are then seeded by basis on win–loss records. * The two teams at the bottom of the standings after the elimination round will be eliminated. The top two teams will advance outright to the semifinals. * The next four teams will qualify in a single round robin quarterfinals; The top two teams will advance to the semifinals. * Semifinals will be a double round robin affair with the four remaining teams. * The top two teams in the semifinals advance to the best-of-five finals. The PBA on Vintage Sports was a branding used for presentation of Philippine Basketball Association games produced by Vintage Sports, a sports-oriented media company and was aired on Philippine television networks City2 Television from 1982 to 1984, Maharlika Broadcasting System (later renamed as People's Television Network) from 1985 to 1995, and Intercontinental Broadcasting Corporation from 1996 to 1999. History In 1982, the PBA awarded the broadcast rights of its games to Vintage Enterprises, Inc., a company owned by Carlos "Bobong" Velez and signed a P5.4 million deal with the league. Games were aired on City2 Television, with the second game of a doubleheader aired live and the first game followed afterwards on a delayed basis. Andrew Fields
Andrew S. Fields (born January 10, 1957) is an American former professional basketball player and coach. As a player, he led Cheyney State to the 1978 NCAA Division II championship, where he was named playoff MVP. His success led him to be drafted with the 18th pick of the second round of the 1979 NBA draft by the Portland Trail Blazers. He however failed to land a contract when Blazers management decided to sign just one player. A resident of Atlantic City, New Jersey, Fields graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1975. He played overseas, earning playing contracts in Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, and most notably in the Philippines for Toyota in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). The Toyota Super Corollas were a multi-titled basketball team in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) from 1975 to 1983. Founded in 1973 by businessman and sportsman Dante Silverio, the team - formally named Toyota Athletic Club - was owned by Delta Motor Corporation (defunct) and played under various names - Komatsu Komets, Toyota Comets, Toyota Silver Tamaraws, Toyota Tamaraws, Toyota Superdiesels, Toyota Super Corollas and Toyota Silver Coronas. Tanduay Distillers, Inc. () is a Philippine alcoholic beverage company. It is a subsidiary of LT Group, a conglomerate owned by Filipino business magnate Lucio Tan. As of 2019, it is the world's largest rum brand. History Tanduay traces its origins to a distillery in Hagonoy, Bulacan originally owned by Elías Menchatorre. In 1856, the distillery was acquired by Valentin Teus e Yrisarry and brought into Ynchausti y Compañía, a prominent Philippine multi-national conglomerate led by the Ynchausti family. Although the Hagonoy distillery was already in operation at the time of the acquisition, Ynchausti y Compañia decided to use its own foundation date (1854) as the distillery's foundation date. The 1983 Winston Kings season was the first season of the franchise in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Known as Manhattan Shirtmakers in the All-Filipino Conference and Sunkist Juice Lovers in the Reinforced Conference.
