1983 Texas Longhorns Baseball Team
The 1983 Texas Longhorns baseball team represented the University of Texas in the 1983 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Longhorns played their home games at Disch-Falk Field. The team was coached by Cliff Gustafson in his 16th season at Texas. The Longhorns won the College World Series, defeating the Alabama Crimson Tide in the championship game. Jim Brock
Jim Brock (July 24, 1936 – June 12, 1994) was the head coach of the Arizona State Sun Devils baseball team for 23 seasons from 1972 until his death in 1994. During his first year as head coach, Brock managed his team to a 64–6 record. That mark remains the NCAA record for all-time winning percentage in a single season (.914). Brock's record at ASU was 1,100–440 (.714), and he also led ASU to thirteen College World Series appearances. In 1994, Brock battled liver and colon cancer that would take his life one day after the conclusion of the College World Series. Though his strength was waning, Brock did not miss a conference game through the '94 season. He led his team through the regional tournament at Knoxville, Tennessee, and was in the dugout when the Sun Devils beat the University of Miami 4–0, in the opener of the College World Series. Pacific-10 Conference
The Pac-12 Conference is a collegiate List of NCAA conferences, athletic conference in the Western United States. 1950 College World Series
The College World Series was the fourth NCAA-sanctioned baseball tournament that determined a national champion. The tournament was held as the conclusion of the 1950 NCAA baseball season and was played at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Nebraska from June 15 to June 23. Barry Shollenberger
Barry John Shollenberger (born 1941) is a retired American baseball and football coach. During his career, Shollenberger worked in both sports while with Tampa Bay Technical High School from 1965 to 1973. In college baseball, Shollenberger started out with the Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team as an assistant coach in 1974. He then became the head coach for Middle Georgia Junior College in 1976. As the head coach for Western Kentucky University from 1977 to 1979, Shollenberger had 77 wins, 64 losses and 3 ties. With Alabama from 1980 to 1994, Shollenberger amassed 487 wins, 334 losses and 1 tie. During this time period, Shollenberger appeared at the championship game during the 1983 College World Series and was the Baseball America College Coach of the Year that year.
