1983 Dallas Cowboys Season
The 1983 Dallas Cowboys season was the franchise's 24th season in the National Football League. Despite a hot start that saw them win their first seven games, the Cowboys finished second in the NFC East. They qualified for the playoffs for the ninth consecutive season, setting a new record for most consecutive playoff appearances by a team in NFL history (the previous mark was jointly held by three teams, one of which was the 1966–1973 Cowboys). The record was tied by the Indianapolis Colts in 2010 before the New England Patriots broke the record in 2019. Christopher Alan Faulkner (born April 13, 1960) is an American former professional football tight end who played in the National Football League (NFL) for the Los Angeles Rams and San Diego Chargers. He was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth round of the 1983 NFL draft after playing college football at the University of Florida. Early life Faulkner was born in Tipton, Indiana. Bryan Craig Caldwell (May 6, 1960 – January 3, 2015) was an American football defensive end in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Oilers. Linebacker (LB) is a playing position in gridiron football. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and typically line up three to five yards behind the line of scrimmage and so back up the defensive linemen. They play closer to the line of scrimmage than the defensive backs (secondary). Michael David Walter (born November 30, 1960) is an American former professional football player who was a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys. He played college football for the Oregon Ducks. Early life Walter attended Sheldon High School, where he focused on basketball, playing just one year of football. He was also a member of the track team. He was named the most valuable player in the state's football All-star game. Defensive end (DE) is a defensive position in the sport of gridiron football. This position has designated the players at each end of the defensive line, but changes in formation (American football), formations over the years have substantially changed how the position is played. History Early formations, with six- and seven-man lines, used the end as a containment player, whose job was first to prevent an "end run" around his position, then secondarily to force plays inside. James Wilson Jeffcoat Jr. (born April 1, 1961) is an American former professional football player who was a defensive end in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys and Buffalo Bills. He played college football for the Arizona State Sun Devils. He won two Super Bowls with the Cowboys over the Bills. After his playing career, he became a coach.
