1982 Stanford Cardinal Baseball Team
The 1982 Stanford Cardinal baseball team represented Stanford University in the 1982 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Cardinal played their home games at Sunken Diamond. The team was coached by Mark Marquess in his 6th year at Stanford. The Cardinal won the Pacific-10 Conference Playoff and the West I Regional to advanced to the College World Series, where they were defeated by the Maine. Mark Marquess
Mark Edward Marquess (born March 24, 1947) is an American college baseball coach. He served as the head coach of the Stanford Cardinal baseball team from 1977 to 2017. Early life and professional baseball career Born and raised in Stockton, California, Marquess graduated from Stagg High School in Stockton in 1965, then attended Stanford University from 1965 to 1969, where he played on the Stanford Cardinal baseball team at first base from 1967 to 1969 and football team from 1966 to 1968 at quarterback, split end, defensive back, and punt returner. At Stanford, Marquess was a member of Delta Tau Delta International Fraternity. His freshman year roommate at Stanford was Mitt Romney, who went on to become Governor of Massachusetts and the Republican nominee for President in 2012. Mike Aldrete
Michael Peter Aldrete (born January 29, 1961) is an American former professional baseball first baseman/outfielder and current coach. He is currently the first base coach for the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball (MLB). Career Aldrete was a four-year letterman at Stanford University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication . He is a member of Delta Tau Delta International Fraternity. From through , Aldrete played for the San Francisco Giants (1986–88), Montreal Expos (1989–90), San Diego Padres (1991), Cleveland Indians (1991), Oakland Athletics (1993–95), California Angels (1995–96) and New York Yankees (1996). The 1982 Texas Longhorns baseball team represented the University of Texas at Austin in the 1982 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Longhorns played their home games at Disch–Falk Field. The team was coached by Cliff Gustafson in his 15th season at Texas. The Longhorns reached the College World Series, finishing fourth with wins over Oklahoma State and Stanford and losses to eventual champion Miami (FL) and runner-up Wichita State. Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium was a baseball stadium in Omaha, Nebraska, the former home to the annual NCAA Division I College World Series and the minor league Omaha Royals, now known as the Omaha Storm Chasers. Rosenblatt Stadium was the largest minor league baseball stadium in the United States until its demolition (Sahlen Field now holds the record). The final College World Series game at Rosenblatt Stadium was played on June 29, 2010. Stevens Stadium is a 7,000-seat soccer stadium on the west coast of the United States, located on the campus of Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, California.
