1982 Minnesota Vikings Season
The 1982 season was the Minnesota Vikings' 22nd season in the National Football League (NFL) and their first in the newly constructed Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. The team was looking to improve on its 7–9 record from 1981. However, a players strike meant seven of the team's 16 games were canceled, and each NFL team was only able to play nine games. The Vikings won their opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before losing the next week to the Buffalo Bills, a game in which they had a 19–0 lead before the Bills pulled off a comeback to win 23–22. After the strike ended, the Vikings lost 26–7 to the Packers in Green Bay before beating the Bears 35–7 the following week to sit at 2–2. After a loss to the Dolphins, the Vikings won their next two games to sit at 4–3. National Football Conference
The National Football Conference (NFC) is a conference of the National Football League (NFL), the highest level of professional American football in the United States. The NFC and its counterpart, the American Football Conference (AFC), each have 16 teams organized into four divisions. Both conferences were created as part of the 1970 NFL merger with the rival American Football League (AFL). All ten of the former AFL teams and three NFL teams formed the AFC while the remaining thirteen NFL clubs formed the NFC. A series of league expansions and division realignments have occurred since the merger, thus making a total of 16 clubs in each conference. 1982 Dallas Cowboys Season
The Dallas Cowboys season was the franchise's 23rd season in the National Football League. The Cowboys finished with a record of 6–3, placing them second in the NFC. It was the Cowboys 17th consecutive winning season, breaking the mark of 16 set by the Raiders. Dallas would eventually extend the record to 20 consecutive winning seasons. Only one team, the New England Patriots from 2001–2019 with 19 consecutive winning seasons has come the closest to matching it. 1981 Minnesota Golden Gophers Football Team
The 1981 Minnesota Golden Gophers football team represented the University of Minnesota in the 1981 Big Ten Conference football season. In their third year under head coach Joe Salem, the Golden Gophers compiled a 6–5 record and outscored their opponents by a combined total of 274 to 264. It was the final season in Memorial Stadium. Quarterback Mike Hohensee received the team's Most Valuable Player award, while flanker Chester Cooper was named offensive MVP, and linebacker Jim Fahnhorst was named the defensive MVP. Linebacker (LB) is a playing position in gridiron football. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and typically line up three to five yards behind the line of scrimmage and so back up the defensive linemen. They play closer to the line of scrimmage than the defensive backs (secondary). Jim Fahnhorst
James John Fahnhorst (born November 8, 1958) is an American former professional football player who was a linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers in the National Football League (NFL) from 1984 through 1990. He was a member of three Super Bowl champions with the 49ers and started in Super Bowl XIX, XXIII and XXIV. Fahnhorst grew up in St. Cloud, Minnesota and graduated from St. Cloud Tech High School. He played college football for the Minnesota Golden Gophers, earning first-team All-Big Ten honors from AP and UPI in 1981. He is the younger brother of the late former 49ers' tackle Keith Fahnhorst. Graduating with a BA in psychology, and a minor in Criminology. Tony Galbreath
Tony Dale Galbreath (born January 29, 1954) is an American former professional football player who was a running back in the National Football League (NFL) for the New Orleans Saints, Minnesota Vikings, and New York Giants. He played college football for the Missouri Tigers and was selected in the second round of the 1976 NFL draft. Galbreath was an All-Big Eight running back for the Missouri Tigers in 1974. He was elected team captain for the 1975 season and still ranks among the Tigers' all-time leading rushers, despite the fact that he played just two years of football after transferring from Indian Hill (Iowa) Junior College. In American football, a guard (G), otherwise known as an offensive guard (OG), is an Lineman (gridiron football), offensive line player who lines up between the center (American football), center and the offensive tackle, tackles. Terry Wayne Tausch (February 5, 1959 – March 25, 2020) was an American professional football player who played guard in the National Football League (NFL) for 8 seasons where he played on the San Francisco 49ers when they won Super Bowl XXIV. He played most of his career with the Minnesota Vikings. He played college football at The University of Texas where he was a two-time All-American, a consensus All-American and played for the national championship. A running back (RB) is a member of the offensive backfield in gridiron football. The primary roles of a running back are to receive American football plays#Offensive terminology, handoffs from the quarterback to Rush (American football)#Offense, rush the ball, to line up as a receiver to catch the ball, and Blocking (American football), block.
