1981 Big Ten Conference Baseball Tournament
The 1981 Big Ten Conference baseball tournament was held at Ray Fisher Stadium on the campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, from May 15 through 17. The top two teams from the regular season in each division participated in the double-elimination tournament, the first such event sponsored by the Big Ten Conference to determine the league champion. Terry Steinbach
Terry Lee Steinbach (born March 2, 1962) is an American former professional baseball player and coach. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a catcher from 1986 to 1999, most notably as a member of the Oakland Athletics team that won three consecutive American League pennants and a World Series championship in . He played his final three seasons with the Minnesota Twins. A three-time All-Star player, Steinbach won the 1988 All-Star Game MVP Award and caught two no-hitters during his career. Amateur career Steinbach attended New Ulm High School in New Ulm, Minnesota. The Cleveland Indians selected Steinbach in the 16th round of the 1980 Major League Baseball Draft, but Steinbach chose not to sign. Jim Paciorek
James Joseph Paciorek (born June 7, 1960) is an American former professional baseball player. He played first base, third base, and outfield for the Milwaukee Brewers of Major League Baseball (MLB). He also played with the Yokohama Taiyo Whales and Hanshin Tigers in the Japanese Central League. His two older brothers, John and Tom, also played in the Major Leagues. Biography After graduating from Orchard Lake St. Marys Preparatory, Paciorek played on both the baseball and American football teams while attending the University of Michigan. In 1980, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod Baseball League. He graduated in 1981, and was drafted in the 14th round by the Cleveland Indians, but did not sign with the Indians. Steve Ontiveros (pitcher)
Steven Ontiveros (born March 5, 1961) is a former pitcher in Major League Baseball. From 1985 through 2000, Ontiveros played for the Oakland Athletics (1985–88, 1994–95), Philadelphia Phillies (1989–90), Seattle Mariners (1993) and Boston Red Sox (2000). He batted and threw right-handed. He attended the University of Michigan where he gained a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. In a ten-season career, Ontiveros posted a 34-31 record with 19 saves and a 3.67 ERA in 207 games pitched (73 as a starter). In 1995, Ontiveros earned a trip to the 1995 Major League Baseball All-Star Game after posting an American League-leading ERA of 2.65 in 1994. In giving up Jeff Conine's game-winning home run, in the same game, Ontiveros was credited with the loss on behalf of starter Randy Johnson. The Big Ten Conference (stylized B1G, formerly the Western Conference and the Big Nine Conference) is the oldest Division I collegiate List of NCAA conferences, athletic conference in the United States.
