The 1980 Swedish speedway season was the 1980 season of motorcycle speedway in Sweden. Individual Individual Championship The 1980 Swedish Individual Speedway Championship final was held on 23 August in Eskilstuna. Jan Andersson won the Swedish Championship for the second time. Junior Championship Winner - Pierre Brannefors Team Team Championship Njudungarna won division 1 and were declared the winners of the Swedish Speedway Team Championship for the second time. The team included Conny Samuelsson and Bo Wirebrand. Piraterna and Kaparna won the second division north and south respectively, while Pilarna won the third division. Junior Championship Winner - Lars Rosberg Team Team Championship Getingarna won division 1 and were declared the winners of the Swedish Speedway Team Championship for the tenth time. The team included Richard Hellsén, Anders Michanek and Tommy Nilsson. Skepparna won the second division, while Eldarna and Solkatterna won the third division east and west respectively. Lejonen
Lejonen (the Lions) is a motorcycle speedway club from Gislaved in Sweden, who compete in the Elitserien. Their home track is at the OnePartnerGroup Arena which is Sweden's oldest track still in use. The club are two times champions of Sweden. History In December 1929 Gislaved Motorclub was formed and by 1931 the track was built. The track was originally wide and long but in 1936 it was widened to and during the 1980s the inside edge of the track was moved and the length was reduced to . In 1963 the Lejonen team began racing in Division Three and became the champions in 1965. Lejonen finished at the top of Division Two (the Allsvenskan) in 2007 and defeated Valsarna in the play-off final to gain promotion to the Elitserien for 2008. During the winter of 2007-08 the track underwent major changes to accommodate Elitserien racing and the club announced the signing of Nicki Pedersen, the 2007 World Champion. Njudungarna
Vetlanda Speedway were a motorcycle speedway team based in Vetlanda, Sweden. Earlier known as Njudungarna and VMS Elit, the club was formed in 1946, and arranged their first meeting three years later. In 2003 when the club was promoted to the top division of Swedish speedway league, the Elitserien, they changed the name of club to VMS Elit. The current name Vetlanda Speedway was adopted in 2018. The Swedish Speedway Team Championship is the team championship of speedway in Sweden. Season by season History The Championship was introduced in 1950. In 1982 the Championship was renamed with a new league called the Elitserien being introduced. previously the highest league had been known as the Allsvenskan but since 1982 it has been the second tier of Swedish speedway. Between 1986 and 1999 the team that finished top of the league were declared champions because there was no play off. Pierre Brannefors (1962-2019) was an international speedway rider from Sweden. Speedway career Brannefors reached the final of the Speedway World Pairs Championship in the 1983 Speedway World Pairs Championship. He rode in the top tier of British Speedway from 1981 to 1984, riding for King's Lynn Stars and Reading Racers. He was also the 1980 Swedish Junior Champion.
