1980 NHL All-Star Game
The 32nd National Hockey League All-Star Game was held in Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, home to the Detroit Red Wings, on February 5, 1980. The Wales Conference all-star team won for the fifth consecutive time. Reggie Leach was voted MVP after scoring one goal and one assist. This was Wayne Gretzky's first appearance and Gordie Howe's 23rd and final All-Star game appearance. Joe Louis Arena
Joe Louis Arena was an arena in Downtown Detroit. Completed in 1979 at a cost of US$57 million as a replacement for Olympia Stadium, it sat adjacent to Cobo Center on the bank of the Detroit River and was accessible by the Joe Louis Arena station on the Detroit People Mover. The venue was named after former heavyweight champion boxer Joe Louis, who grew up in Detroit. It was the home of the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League and the second oldest NHL venue after Madison Square Garden until the start of the 2017–18 NHL season. Joe Louis Arena was owned by the city of Detroit, and operated by Olympia Entertainment, a subsidiary of team owner Ilitch Holdings. Lars Lindgren
Lars Sune Lindgren (born October 13, 1952) is a Swedish former ice hockey defenceman and a professional scout with the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League (NHL). He featured in the 1982 Stanley Cup Finals with the Vancouver Canucks. Lindgren started his career with Canucks as a player in 1978, after having played for Modo Hockey in Sweden. Blair Neil Joseph "B. J." MacDonald (born November 17, 1953) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League and World Hockey Association between 1973 and 1983. He featured in the 1979 WHA Final with the Edmonton Oilers and the 1982 Stanley Cup Finals with the Vancouver Canucks. He is best known for his time with the Oilers, the club where he spent the majority of his career and where he served as one of Wayne Gretzky's first linemates at the start of Gretzky's NHL career. Bill Barber
William Charles Barber (born July 11, 1952) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey forward who played twelve seasons for the Philadelphia Flyers in the National Hockey League (NHL). As part of the famed LCB ( Leach, Clarke, Barber) line, Barber helped lead the Flyers to the franchise's two Stanley Cups in 1974 and 1975. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1990. He is currently a scouting consultant with the Flyers. Playing career Barber was drafted by the Flyers, seventh overall, in the first round of the 1972 draft. He was called up after 11 games in the AHL with the Richmond Robins. Jimmy Watson (ice Hockey)
James Charles Watson (born August 19, 1952) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman. He played ten seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Philadelphia Flyers from 1973 to 1982. With the Flyers he won the Stanley Cup twice, in 1974 and 1975. He was inducted into the Flyers' Hall of Fame February 2016. Internationally Watson played 2 games in the 1976 Canada Cup for Canada. Biography Watson was born in Smithers, British Columbia. Ronald John Greschner (born December 22, 1954) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for 16 seasons between 1974 and 1990. Greschner was selected 32nd overall by the New York Rangers in the 1974 NHL amateur draft. He played in 982 career NHL games, all with the Rangers, scoring 179 goals and 431 assists for 610 points. Robert Picard
Robert Rene Joseph Picard (born May 25, 1957) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. Career Robert Picard established himself as a highly regarded defensive prospect with the Montreal Juniors and Montreal Bleu Blanc Rouge from 1973 to 1977. He was selected 3rd overall by the Washington Capitals in the 1977 NHL Entry Draft. In Washington, expectations were high due to the team's abysmal performance, and Picard was expected to single-handedly reverse the losing fortunes.
