1979 Wimbledon Championships – Men's Doubles
Peter Fleming (tennis), Peter Fleming and John McEnroe defeated Brian Gottfried and Raúl Ramírez in the final, 4–6, 6–4, 6–2, 6–2 to win the gentlemen's doubles title at the 1979 Wimbledon Championships. It was both men's first Grand Slam (tennis)#Tournaments, major men's doubles title. Bob Hewitt and Frew McMillan were the defending champions, but were defeated in the semifinals by Fleming and McEnroe. Peter Fleming (tennis)
Peter Blair Fleming (born January 21, 1955, in Chatham Borough, New Jersey) is an American former professional tennis player. In his doubles partnership with John McEnroe, he won 52 titles, of which seven were at Grand Slam (tennis), Grand Slams (four at Wimbledon Championships, Wimbledon, three at the US Open (tennis), US Open). As a singles player, he peaked at world No. 8, winning three titles (including the 1979 Cincinnati Open). Tennis career Fleming attended Chatham High School (New Jersey), Chatham High School, where he won the New Jersey high school individual championship in 1972, during his junior year. Víctor Pecci
Víctor Pecci Sr. (born October 15, 1955) is a Paraguayan former professional tennis player. He was ranked as high as world No. 9 in singles in 1980 and world No. 31 in doubles in 1984. Pecci is famous for reaching the 1979 French Open final. He beat Guillermo Vilas in the quarterfinals and Jimmy Connors in the semifinals, but lost to three-time champion Björn Borg in the final. Tom Gullikson
Tom Gullikson (born September 8, 1951) is a tennis coach and former professional tennis player born in La Crosse, Wisconsin and raised in Onalaska, Wisconsin in the United States. Career During his career as a player, Gullikson won 15 ATP recognized doubles titles, ten of them partnering with his identical twin brother, Tim Gullikson, who was also a noted coach. Timothy Ernest Gullikson (September 8, 1951 – May 3, 1996) was a tennis player and coach who was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin and grew up in Onalaska, Wisconsin in the United States. Heinz Peter Günthardt (; born 8 February 1959) is a retired tennis player from Switzerland. Tennis player career Günthardt won five singles titles during his professional career, including the Rotterdam WCT in 1980. The right-hander reached his career-high ATP singles ranking of world No. 22 in April 1986. In doubles, he captured a total number of 30 titles. John Alexander (Australian Politician)
John Gilbert Alexander (born 4 July 1951), nicknamed JA, is an Australian former professional tennis player, sports broadcaster, and federal politician. As a tennis player, Alexander reached a career-high singles rank of no. 8 in the world in 1975.
