1979 Limerick Senior Hurling Championship
The 1979 Limerick Senior Hurling Championship was the 85th staging of the Limerick Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Limerick County Board. South Liberties were the defending champions. On 23 September 1979, Patrickswell won the championship after a 2–16 to 0–16 defeat of Tournafulla in the final. It was their sixth championship title overall and their first title in two championship seasons. Tournafulla GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Tournafulla, County Limerick, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The club is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. History Located in the village of Tournafulla in West Limerick, Tournafulla GAA Club was founded by Fr. Michael Byrne in 1889. The club has competed in all grades of hurling in Limerick, however, as the county's smallest, the club has struggled to field teams on occasions due to emigration. The Limerick County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael, Coiste Chontae Luimneach) or Limerick GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Limerick. South Liberties (Irish: ''Saor Theas'') is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in County Limerick, Ireland. The club is based in the parish of Donoughmore-Knockea-Roxboro, on the southern outskirts of Limerick City and is affiliated to the East Board of Limerick GAA. It is one of the oldest clubs in the country, founded in 1884, the same year as the GAA. South Liberties' home ground in Ballysheedy is called Dooley Park, in memory of one of the club's greatest players. Gaelic Grounds
The Gaelic Grounds, know for sponsorshop reasons as the TUS Gaelic Grounds, is the principal GAA stadium in the Irish city of Limerick, home to the Limerick hurling and football teams. It has a capacity of 44,023. History 9 October 1926 saw first steps taken towards creating the Limerick Gaelic Grounds as a GAA stadium of note. A farm containing was purchased at Coolraine on the Ennis Road for development as a sporting grounds. Two years later the new grounds officially opened with two junior hurling games. The first big effort to raise funds for the development of the grounds was in 1932, with the establishment of a development committee, whose remit was to level the pitch, providing sideline seating and erect a boundary wall.
