The 1978 TCU Horned Frogs football team represented Texas Christian University (TCU) in the 1978 NCAA Division I-A football season. The Horned Frogs finished the season 2–9 overall and 0–8 in the Southwest Conference. The team was coached by F. A. Dry, in his second year as head coach. The Frogs played their home games in Amon G. The TCU–Texas Tech football rivalry is an American college football rivalry between the TCU Horned Frogs football team of Texas Christian University (TCU), and the Texas Tech Red Raiders football team of Texas Tech University. The winner of the annual game is presented with the Saddle Trophy, a traveling icon which bears plaques marking the score of each meeting between the rival schools. The 1978 Houston Cougars football team, also known as the Houston Cougars, Houston, or UH, represented the University of Houston in the 1978 NCAA Division I-A football season. The Cougars were led by 17th-year head coach Bill Yeoman and played their home games at the Astrodome in Houston, Texas. The team competed as members of the Southwest Conference, winning the conference with a 7–1 conference record.
