The 1975 Buffalo Bills season was the franchise's sixth season in the NFL, and its 16th overall. The Bills failed to improve on their 9–5 record from last year and finished 8–6. They enjoyed their third consecutive winning season, but they still failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 1973. This amount is the most points scored by any team in a 14-game season after the merger, and the most points scored by any team in the 1970s. 1974 Buffalo Bills Season
The 1974 Buffalo Bills season was the franchise's 5th season in the National Football League, and the 15th overall. Buffalo made the NFL playoffs for the first time and reached the postseason for the first time in eight seasons. In the divisional playoffs the Bills lost to the eventual champions, the Pittsburgh Steelers 32–14 in Pittsburgh. This was O. J. Simpson's only playoff game of his career, as the Bills did not have another playoff team with him on the team. Simpson would be traded to the 49ers in 1978, but the 49ers did not make the playoffs that season nor the 1979 season, Simpson's final season in the NFL. In the game, Simpson would only rush for 49 yards on 11 carries and did not score a touchdown. He did, however, catch a touchdown pass from quarterback Joe Ferguson late in the 3rd quarter. John McCrumbly
John Paul McCrumbly (born July 28, 1952) is a former American football linebacker. After playing college football at Tyler Junior College and Texas A&M University, McCrumbly played a season for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League (NFL) in 1975. Early life McCrumbly played linebacker and fullback at Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas in the school's early days of racial integration. He made the varsity football team as a sophomore. He became the school's first black football star. When McCrumbly was a junior, he rushed for more than 1,900 yards and scored 19 touchdowns as Woodrow Wilson made it to the state semifinals. He was a consensus all-state selection in 1970. McCrumbly subsequently played linebacker for Tyler Junior College, where he was a second-team National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-American in 1971 and 1972. Tom Donchez (March 10, 1952 – August 28, 2024) was an American football running back. He was drafted 102 overall by the Buffalo Bills but was cut and picked up by the Chicago Bears, appearing in 14 games in 1975, mostly on special teams. Early life and career Donchez was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on March 10, 1952, to a single mother, Helen Donchez. He graduated from Liberty High School before going on to play college football at Penn State University where he met his wife Sheela. Donchez played fullback for Penn State from 1970 to 1974 rushing for 1,422 career yards including 880 yards in 1974, when he had four 100-yard games. The highlight of his sports career was rushing for three touchdowns against Ohio University in 1974, with Penn State's 35-16 win being their 500th total win in school history. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and typically line up three to five yards behind the line of scrimmage and so back up the defensive linemen. The 1981 Buffalo Bills season was the franchise's 12th season in the National Football League, and the 22nd overall. The season's most memorable moment was probably a Hail Mary catch against the New England Patriots in Week Twelve. The 36-yard touchdown pass from Bills quarterback Joe Ferguson to running back Roland Hooks as time expired won the game for Buffalo, 20–17. The 1981 New England Patriots season was the franchise's 12th season in the National Football League and 22nd overall. Looking to improve on two consecutive winning seasons under head coach Ron Erhardt, including a 10–6 mark in 1980, the Patriots instead regressed significantly and ended the season with a record of two wins and fourteen losses, and finished tied for last in the AFC East Division with the Baltimore Colts, with whom they also tied for the worst record in the league. A porous defensive line and linebacking corps was the chief weakness: in one game against the Steelers the Patriot secondary made 27 of the team's 33 tackles.
