1974 Nagaland Legislative Assembly Election ...
Elections to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly were held in February 1974 to elect members of the 60 constituencies in Nagaland, India. United Democratic Front won the most number of seats and Vizol Angami was appointed as the Chief Minister of Nagaland. After the previous election in 1969, the number of constituencies in Nagaland were increased from 40 to 60, following the recommendation of the Delimitation Commission of India. Nagaland Legislative Assembly is the unicameral legislature of the Indian state of Nagaland. Nagaland became a state of India on 1 December 1963 and after election in January 1964, the first Nagaland Legislative Assembly was formed on 11 February 1964. Thepfülo-u Nakhro (T. N.) Angami (1913 – 1986) was an Indian politician from Nagaland who served as the first Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly and the second Chief Minister of the North East Indian state of Nagaland. Early life T.N. Angami was born the son of V N Angami in Jotsoma village near Kohima in a wealthy Angami Naga family in 1913. He was schooled in Kohima, Jorhat and Shillong. He served as a Store Keeper in the Indian Army during the Second World War. From 1946, he worked in the office of the Deputy Commissioner of the Naga Hills District for five years. Political career Angami began his political life in 1951 when he resigned from his job as an office assistant to join the Naga National Council, an organisation that he went on to head as its president.
