1973–74 Santosh Trophy
The 1973–74 Santosh Trophy was the 30th edition of the Santosh Trophy, the main State competition for football in India. Kerala won the Santosh Trophy for the first time beating Railways 3–2 with their captain Mani scoring all the three goals. The tournament was held in the Maharaja's College Ground, Ernakulam, Kerala. The matches were played under newly installed floodlights. On most of the days, there were two matches, played between 5.45 pm and 9.30 pm. The tournament was inaugurated by the home minister K. Karunakaran. The match-ball for the first day was dropped from a helicopter. Stands that could hold 20,000 – 25,000 spectators were built in the ground Santosh Trophy contest begins

The Kerala football team (Malayalam Language, Malayalam: കേരള കാൽപന്തുകളി ഗണം), formerly known as ''Travancore-Cochin football team'', is an Indian state level semi-professional association football, football team representing Kerala in Indian state football competitions including the Santosh Trophy and National Games of India. The team appeared in the Santosh Trophy finals 15 times, and have won the trophy 7 times. Kerala last won the Santhosh Trophy in 2021–22 Santosh Trophy, 2022 by defeating West Bengal football team, Bengal in the final on 2 May at the Malappuram District Sports Complex Stadium, Payyanadu Stadium in Malappuram, Kerala, Malappuram. Simon Sundararaj
Simon Sundararaj (born 9 November 1937) is a retired Indian footballer who played as a midfielder for the India national team. He represented South India Railways in the club level. As a coach, he coached the Kerala state team to its first Santosh Trophy win in 1973. Early life Sundararaj was born on 9 November 1937, in Tanjore (now Thanjavur) in the erstwhile Madras Presidency, (now in Tamil Nadu) of British India. His uncle was a footballer who played for the local club, Tanjore United. Sundararaj, as a kid followed him to all his matches, and subsequently took to football. He holds a diploma in Physical education. Career Playing for the India national team, Sundararaj wore jersey number 23. He was the first from Tamil Nadu to play in the national team. Victor Manjila
Victor Manjila is a former Indian International football goalkeeper and coach from Thrissur, Kerala. Playing career Manjila played for Calicut University during his college days in St.Thomas College, Thrissur. He started his professional career with the then popular Kerala based football club "Premier Tyres", Kalamassery where former Indian goalkeeper K. P. Sethumadhavan was his teammate. He represented Kerala, as the goalkeeper, in the Santosh Trophy in 1971, 73, 74, 75, 76, and 79. Kerala won the Santosh Trophy in 1973.
