1973 Wimbledon Championships – Mixed Doubles
Ilie Năstase and Rosie Casals were the defending champions, but lost in the semifinals to Raúl Ramírez and Janet Newberry. Rain delays to the tournament necessitated matches from the fourth round, quarterfinals, semifinals and the final itself being completed on the last two days of the tournament. Davidson and King played three matches on the final day of the tournament to earn their victory, giving King the triple crown. No other player has won the triple crown at Wimbledon in the open era. Owen Davidson and Billie Jean King defeated Ramírez and Newberry in the final, 6–3, 6–2 to win the mixed doubles tennis title at the 1973 Wimbledon Championships. Owen Davidson
Owen Keir Davidson (4 October 1943 – 12 May 2023) was an Australian professional tennis player of the 1960s and 1970s. Alongside Billie Jean King, Davidson won eight grand slam mixed doubles titles. In 1967 he won a calendar year slam for mixed doubles, when he won the Australian Championships (with Lesley Turner Bowrey), and the French Championships, Wimbledon and the US Championships (with King). Davidson became the first player to win a match in the open era of tennis when he defeated John Clifton in the first round of the British Hard Court Championships in Bournemouth played in April 1968. His best grand slam singles result was at Wimbledon in 1966, when he reached the semifinals (beating top seed Roy Emerson before losing to Manuel Santana). Paul Hutchins
Paul Raymond Hutchins (5 April 1945 – 14 March 2019) was a British tennis player and Davis Cup player. Christina Sandberg (born 11 January 1948) is a former professional tennis player from Sweden. She reached the quarterfinals of the 1970 Australian Open in both the singles and doubles. She played for Sweden in the Federation Cup in 25 matches, and she notably defeated Virginia Wade in the first round of the 1968 Wimbledon Championships - Women's Singles. Patricia Lynn Bostrom (born November 25, 1951) is an American former professional tennis player. She is better known as Trish Bostrom, and after tennis, she became a lawyer in Washington. Bostrom grew up in West Seattle, and she attended the University of Washington, winning the Pac-8 singles title in 1972. She won the 1976 US Open women's doubles title with her partner Ilana Kloss.
