Deportivo Saprissa
Deportivo Saprissa is a Costa Rican sports club, mostly known for its Association football, football team. The club is based in San Juan de Tibás, San José, Costa Rica, San José, and play their home games at the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa Aymá. Their colours are burgundy and white. It is the main team representing the capital, but with the distinction of being massively followed throughout the whole country and overseas. The club was founded in 1935 and has competed in the Costa Rican first division since 1949. The name of the team comes from one of the club's main founders, Ricardo Saprissa Aymá. One of the most popular nicknames for the team (''The Maroon'' ''Monster'') can be traced back to 1987, when the Costa Rican newspaper ''Diario Extra (Costa Rica), Diario Extra'' gave the team the nickname during a derby, because of the club's enormous following. Gerardo Solano
Luis Gerardo Solano Chavarría (24 december 1953, in San José – 12 January 2000) was a Costa Rican professional footballer who played most of his career for Deportivo Saprissa and Herediano in the 1970s. Club career Solano was a member of the Saprissa squad that won six consecutive championships from 1972 to 1977, a record both in Costa Rica as well as in the Americas. He was the team's goalscorer with 57 in this period. He was the club's joint-leading scorer with eleven goals in 1973 and he played the most games for Saprissa in the 1970s. Estadio Ricardo Saprissa Aymá is a football stadium in San Juan de Tibás, with a seating capacity of 23,112, making it the second-largest stadium in the country. The stadium is the home of Deportivo Saprissa, and was named in honor of the team's founder Ricardo Saprissa. The stadium's nickname "The Monster's Cave" (La Cueva del Monstruo) is derived from the team's nickname "The Purple Monster". Francisco Hernández Ramírez (11 July 1949 – 7 January 2019) was a professional football player from Costa Rica. Club career Hernández played during the 70s and 80s with Costa Rica's national team and for Saprissa, winning a total of eight titles with them, including the six consecutive championships won by Saprissa from 1972 to 1977, a record both in Costa Rica as well as in the Americas.
