1972 Dallas Cowboys
The 1972 Dallas Cowboys season was their 13th in the league. The team failed to improve their previous output of 11–3, winning ten games. They qualified for the playoffs for the seventh consecutive season but settled for the wildcard spot. A pre-season injury to quarterback Roger Staubach and the trade of Duane Thomas (both had been integral figures in the 1971 championship team) hindered the offense (mitigated somewhat since their replacements, Craig Morton and Calvin Hill, were former starters). In the divisional playoff round, Staubach came off the bench to engineer an improbable 30–28 comeback win over the 49ers (Dallas had trailed by 28–16 with less than 2 minutes to play). NFC East
The National Football Conference – Eastern Division or NFC East is one of the four Division (sport), divisions of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL). It has four members: the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, and Washington Commanders. The division was formed in 1967 as the National Football League Capitol Division and acquired its current name in 1970 following the AFL-NFL merger. The NFC East is currently the only division in the league in which all four current teams have won not only at least one Super Bowl, but also at least two. John Babinecz
John Michael Babinecz (born July 27, 1950) is an American former professional football player who was a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Oilers and Chicago Bears. He also was a member of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played college football at Villanova University. Early life Babinecz attended Central Catholic High School where he played as a tight end and linebacker, receiving All-Catholic honors in his last two years. He also was the State Catholic champion in the shot put. He accepted a football scholarship from Villanova University, where he became a three-year starter and a three-time All-East selection at middle linebacker. Northern Michigan Wildcats
The Northern Michigan Wildcats are the athletic teams that represent Northern Michigan University, located in Marquette, Michigan, in NCAA intercollegiate sporting competitions. All teams that play under NCAA governance compete at the NCAA Division II, Division II level, with three exceptions. The most significant one is the men's ice hockey program, which plays at the NCAA Division I, Division I level. Two other sports, Nordic skiing (a coeducational sport with separate men's and women's squads) and women's wrestling (part of the NCAA Emerging Sports for Women program), are de facto Division I sports; the NCAA holds a single skiing championship open to members of all three divisions, and does not currently include women's wrestling in its divisional structure. Tim Kearney (American Football)
Timothy Edward Kearney (born October 5, 1950) is a former American football linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for the Cincinnati Bengals, Kansas City Chiefs, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and St. Louis Cardinals. He played college football at Northern Michigan University. Early years Kearney attended Kingsford High School. He accepted a scholarship from Northern Michigan University. He was a three-year starter at linebacker. As a senior, he received Little All-American honors in 1971. In 1982, he was inducted into the Northern Michigan University Sports Hall of Fame. Professional career Dallas Cowboys Kearney was selected in the fourth round (83rd overall) of the 1972 NFL draft by the Dallas Cowboys, who were the defending Super Bowl champions. The 1971 Utah Redskins football team was an American football team that represented the University of Utah as a member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) during the 1971 NCAA University Division football season. In their fourth season under head coach Bill Meek, the Redskins compiled an overall record of 3–8 with a mark of 3–4 against conference opponents, placing in a three-way tie for fourth in the WAC. A punter in gridiron football is a special teams player who receives the snap (gridiron football), snapped ball directly from the line of scrimmage and then Punt (gridiron football), punts (kicks) the football to the opposing team so as to limit any field position advantage. This generally happens on a fourth down in American football and a third down in Canadian football. Punters may also occasionally take part in fake punts in those same situations, when they forward pass, throw or rush (gridiron football), run the football to get a first down instead of punting. Marvin Fredrick Bateman (born April 5, 1950) is an American former professional football player who was a punter in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys and Buffalo Bills. He played college football for the Utah Utes. Early years Bateman attended Highland High School, where he competed in football, basketball and baseball. He accepted a football scholarship from the University of Utah. He led the nation in punting in his last 2 years and became the first Utah football player to receive first-team All-American honors two years in a row. As a senior, he set school records for average yards per punt (48.07) and total punt yardage (3,269). During his college career he was also the team's placekicker, making 21 field goals (sixth in school history), converting 51 percent of his attempts and had a school record 59 yard field goal.
