1972 AFC Asian Cup
The 1972 AFC Asian Cup was the 5th edition of the men's AFC Asian Cup, a quadrennial international football tournament organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), that was hosted in Thailand. The finals were held in Thailand between 7 May and 19 May 1972. It was won by Iran. Hossein Kalani (; born January 23, 1945, in Tehran) is a retired Iranian Football (soccer), football Striker (association football), striker who played for Shahin F.C., Shahin, Persepolis F.C., Persepolis, Paykan Tehran F.C., Paykan Tehran, Shahbaz F.C., Shahbaz and the Iran national football team. He was named as one of the members of Persepolis F.C. Hall of Fame and the club thanked him for his great performance during his senior career at Persepolis. Cha Bum-kun (; or ; born 22 May 1953) is a South Korean former football manager and player. A forward, he was nicknamed Tscha Bum or "Cha Boom" in Germany because of his name and thunderous ball striking ability. He showed explosive pace and powerful shots with his thick thighs. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest Asian footballers of all time. In 1972, Cha had been capped for the South Korea national team as the youngest player of the time at the age of 18.
