Hugues Lapointe
Hugues Lapointe (; 3 March 1911 – 13 November 1982) was a Canadian lawyer, Member of Parliament and Lieutenant Governor of Quebec from 1966 to 1978. Life and career Born in Rivière-du-Loup, Quebec, the son of the Canadian Member of Parliament Ernest Lapointe and Emma Pratte, he studied at the University of Ottawa and Université Laval. He was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1935. He practised law from 1936 to 1961. He served during World War II and achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel. He was elected as a Liberal in the 1940 federal election in the Quebec riding of Lotbinière. He was re-elected in the 1945, 1949, and 1953 elections. He was defeated in the 1957 election. He held three cabinet positions: Solicitor General of Canada (1949–1950), Minister of Veterans Affairs (1950–1957), and Postmaster General (1955–1957). John George MacKay
John George MacKay (November 6, 1893 – October 21, 1974) was a farmer and political figure on Prince Edward Island. He represented 4th Prince in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1949 to 1966 as a Liberal. MacKay was the 20th Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island, serving from October 6, 1969, to October 24, 1974. Biography He was born in Albany, Prince Edward Island, the son of David MacKay and Almira Harvey, and was educated there. MacKay married Muriel Beatrice Boulter in 1918. He was president of the Tryon Dairying Company and the Tryon Farmers' Institute and also served as a director of the Provincial Swine Breeders' Association. MacKay served in the 10th Siege Battery with the Canadian Expeditionary Force during World War I. William Ross Macdonald
William Ross Macdonald (December 25, 1891 – May 28, 1976), served as the 21st Lieutenant Governor of Ontario from 1968 to 1974, and as 22nd Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada from 1949 to 1953. Early life Macdonald was born in Toronto, Ontario, to a dry goods merchant who had immigrated from Scotland. He went on to study law at the University of Toronto and the Osgoode Hall Law School. Upon completion, he practised law in Brantford, Ontario, and served with the 2nd Canadian Division Cyclist Company and 4th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force in the First World War. In 1921, Macdonald married Muriel Whittaker. Political career Macdonald sought Liberal Party nomination to run for election to the House of Commons of Canada for the 1926 election, but lost the nomination by a single vote. Ewart John Arlington Harnum (October 13, 1910 – February 29, 1996) was a Canadian businessman and the fifth lieutenant governor of Newfoundland from 1969 to 1974. Born on Sound Island in Placentia Bay, Newfoundland, Harnum was educated at Bishop Feild College, St. John's. His business background was in insurance, as he worked for Dale and Company Limited, followed by Bowring Insurance, Mutual Life Insurance of Canada and finally W.U. Knowling Insurance Limited.
