Incumbent Democratic Senator Frank Moss was re-elected to a third term in office, defeating Republican U.S. Representative Laurence J. Burton. Frank Edward "Ted" Moss (September 23, 1911 – January 29, 2003) was an American lawyer and politician. A Democrat, from 1959 to 1977 he served as a United States Senator from Utah, and is currently the last Democrat to do so. Early life and education Frank Moss was born in Holladay, a suburb of Salt Lake City, Utah, as the youngest of seven children of James Edward and Maude (née Nixon) Moss. His father, a well-known secondary school educator, was known as the "father of high school athletics" in Utah. In 1929, he graduated from Granite High School, where he had been freshman class president, editor of the school newspaper, two-time state debate champion, and center on the football team. Moss then attended the University of Utah, where he was a double major in speech and history. During college, he was sophomore class president and coach of the varsity debate team. The 2024 United States Senate election in Utah was held on November 5, 2024, to elect a member of the United States Senate to represent the state of Utah. Republican congressman John Curtis won his first term in office, succeeding Republican incumbent Mitt Romney, who did not seek a second term. Despite finishing a distant second behind Riverton mayor Trent Staggs at the Utah Republican convention, Curtis won the Republican primary with 49% of the vote over Staggs and former state House speaker Brad Wilson. Democratic environmentalist Caroline Gleich won her party's nomination after receiving 93% of vote at the Utah Democratic convention. Democrats have not won a Senate election in Utah since 1970.
