1970 Danish Local Elections
Regional elections were held in Denmark on 3 March 1970. 4677 municipal council members were elected to the 1970 - 1974 term of office in the 277 municipalities, as well as 366 members of the 14 counties of Denmark. The term of office was 1 April 1970 - 31 March 1974. In Copenhagen County Sengeløse was created a municipality from 1 April 1970, but existed only until 31 March 1974. It was abolished 1 April 1974, becoming part of Høje-Taastrup Municipality. Store Magleby parish municipality merged with Dragør parish municipality to become Dragør Municipality from 1 April 1974. From 1 April 1974 there were 275 municipalities in Denmark. The Danish Social Liberal Party ( da, Radikale Venstre, , Radical Left) is a social-liberal political party in Denmark. The party was founded as a split from the Venstre Reform Party in 1905. The Justice Party ( da, Retsforbundet) of Denmark was founded in 1919 as an association and transformed into a political party in 1922. The party's platform is based upon the principles of U.S. economist Henry George - who advocated a single tax on all land - and those of Danish moral philosopher Severin Christensen. The party was elected to parliament for the first time in 1926, and they were moderately successful in the post-war period and managed to join a governing coalition with the Social Democrats and the Social Liberal Party from the years 1957–60. In 1960 they dropped out of the parliament. The Communist Party ( da, Kommunistisk Parti, or KP) is a communist political party in Denmark. History and profile The party was formed in 2006 through the merger of Communist Party of Denmark (Marxist-Leninist) (DKP/ML) and Communist Unification (KS). The latter of which consisted of a group of breakaways from the KPiD, who chose to leave the party in 2005 in protest against the party's reluctance for a merger with DKP/ML. The party was founded as part of an attempt to unite the communist forces in Denmark, which had been divided between the Communist Party of Denmark and various changing small factions and parties since the 1970s. Of these smaller parties, Fælles Kurs achieved representation in the Folketing, while DKP/ML's forerunner, the Communist Workers' Party (KAP), did not. Socialist People's Party (Denmark)
The Green Left ( da, Socialistisk Folkeparti, SF) is a democratic socialist political party in Denmark. It was formerly known in English as the Socialist People's Party, the literal translation of its Danish name. History 1959–1969 The SF was founded on 15 February 1959 by Aksel Larsen, a former leader of the Communist Party of Denmark (DKP). Larsen was removed from the ranks of the DKP for his criticism over the Soviet intervention in the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. Larsen and the new SF sought to form a third way between Denmark's United States-oriented social democracy and Soviet Union–oriented communism, which sought to combine democracy with socialism.
