1968 Gillette Cup
The 1968 Gillette Cup was the sixth Gillette Cup, an English limited overs county cricket tournament. It was held between 27 April and 7 September 1968. The tournament was won by Warwickshire County Cricket Club who defeated Sussex County Cricket Club by 4 wickets in the final at Lord's. The newly launched London Weekend Television won the rights to show the final throughout the ITV network, considered a major coup when set alongside the strong association the BBC then had with cricket (and would for another thirty years). Test And County Cricket Board
The Test and County Cricket Board (TCCB) was the sports governing body, governing body for Test cricket, Test and county cricket in Great Britain between 1968 and 1996. The TCCB was established in 1968 to replace the functions of the Board of Control for Test Matches (established in 1898) and the Advisory County Cricket Committee (1904) which had been set up by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) to administer Test cricket in England and the County Championship respectively. In order to be eligible for government funding through the Sports Council, cricket needed an independent governing body and the representatives from the TCCB, together with representatives from MCC and the National Cricket Association (NCA), formed a new Cricket Council, initially known as the MCC Council. Dorset County Cricket Club
Dorset County Cricket Club is one of twenty National county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Dorset. The team is currently a member of the National Counties Cricket Association Championship Western Division 2 and plays in the National Counties Cricket Association Knockout Trophy and the NCCA T20 Competition. Dorset played List A matches occasionally from 1968 until 2004 but is not classified as a List A team ''per se''. The club is currently without a permanent ground so it uses several club grounds inside the historic county boundaries, where they play their home matches. Northamptonshire County Cricket Club
Northamptonshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Northamptonshire. Its limited overs team is called the Northants Steelbacks – a reference to the Northamptonshire Regiment which was formed in 1881. The name was supposedly a tribute to the soldiers' apparent indifference to the harsh discipline imposed by their officers. Founded in 1878, Northamptonshire (Northants) held minor status at first but was a prominent member of the early Minor Counties Championship during the 1890s. Arthur Jepson
Arthur Jepson (12 July 1915 – 17 July 1997) was an English first-class cricketer who played for Nottinghamshire before becoming an umpire. In addition to cricket he was also an accomplished football goalkeeper who played over 100 games in the Football League before turning his hand to management. A right-arm fast-medium bowler for Nottinghamshire between 1938 and 1959, Jepson took 1,050 first-class wickets, becoming one of the ten most prolific bowlers in the club's history. He then spent 26 years as an umpire, presiding over four Test matches. In his footballing career, he played for non-League sides Newark Town, Mansfield Town, and Grantham Town, before playing for Port Vale either side of World War II. He spent 1946 to 1948 in the top flight with Stoke City before winding down his career following a two-year stint with Lincoln City. Ron Aspinall
Ronald Aspinall (26 October 1918 – 16 August 1999) was an English cricketer, who played for Yorkshire, and a cricket umpire. Life and career Aspinall was born in Almondbury, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. A useful lower order right-handed batsman and a fast-medium right arm bowler, Aspinall was 27 before he made his first-class cricket debut in 1946, and four years later his career was over, ended by an Achilles' tendon injury. His most successful game came in 1947 against Northamptonshire, when he took 8 for 42 and 6 for 23 to dismiss the home team for 146 and 118 to hand Yorkshire victory by 351 runs. In 1948, he played fairly regularly as the successor to Bill Bowes, opening the Yorkshire bowling with Alec Coxon. Trent Bridge Cricket Ground is a cricket ground mostly used for Test cricket, Test, One-day cricket, One-Day International and county cricket located in West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire, England, just across the River Trent from the city of Nottingham. Ken Shuttleworth (cricketer)
Kenneth Shuttleworth (born 13 November 1944) is an English former cricketer. He played five Test matches and one One Day International for England in the early 1970s. Life and career Shuttleworth made his first-class cricket debut for Lancashire in 1964 when he was aged nineteen, tall, raw, but genuinely a fast bowler. He took fifty wickets in 1967, but really started to burst through in 1968, when Brian Statham was fading from the scene. His best season was in 1970, when he took seventy-four wickets at 21.60 runs each, and played for England against The Rest of the World, at Lord's. He went to Australia with Ray Illingworth's Ashes-winning team and started his Test career with five for 47 at Brisbane. Mike Taylor (cricketer, Born 1942)
Michael Norman Somerset Taylor (born 12 November 1942) was an English first-class cricketer who played mainly for Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club and Hampshire County Cricket Club in a career that spanned the 1964 and 1980 seasons and included 375 first-class and 226 limited overs matches. Taylor was born along, of course, with twin Brother Derek at Shardeloes House an 18th Century Manor House set in the Chiltern Hills just outside Amersham. His early cricket was played at Amersham Hill C.C. and then Chesham C.C. where he benefitted from being coached by Alf Pope the ex-Derbyshire bowler. Before moving to Trent Bridge Taylor played Minor County Cricket for Buckinghamshire. John Sullivan (5 February 1945 – 22 February 2006) was an English cricketer. He played for Lancashire as a right-handed middle-order batter and a right-arm medium-pace swing and seam bowler between 1963 and 1976.
