Sandown Raceway
Sandown International Raceway is a motor racing circuit in the suburb of Springvale in Melbourne, Victoria, approximately south east of the city centre. Sandown is considered a power circuit with its " drag strip" front and back straights being long respectively. History Sandown Racecourse was first built as a horse racing facility, dating back into the 19th century, but closed in the 1930s in a government run rationalisation program. Redevelopment began not long after World War II. A bitumen motor racing circuit was built around the outside of the proposed horse track (which was not completed until 1965) and was first opened in 1962 and held the race which became the Sandown 500 for the first time in 1964. The circuit hosted its first Australian Touring Car Championship race in 1965. Fiat 125
The Fiat 125 is a large family car manufactured and marketed by Italian company Fiat from 1967 to 1972. Derivatives were built under license outside Italy until the 1990s. As launched the car was unusual in blending saloon car passenger accommodation with sports car performance, a combination which would be more widely adopted by the European volume auto-makers in the decade ahead. The body The chassis used was the same as that of the longer variant of the outgoing model, the Fiat 1300/1500, and the floor pan was virtually unchanged from it. The body was a slightly lengthened development of the Fiat 124: the two models had the same passenger compartment and doors, but the 125's rear seat was set slightly further back, reflecting the 25 cm longer wheelbase, inherited from the Fiat 1500, and over 8 cm (3 inches) longer than that of the 124. The Renault 8 (Renault R8 until 1964) is a rear-engined, rear-wheel drive small family car produced by the French manufacturer Renault in the 1960s and early 1970s. It also formed the basis for the larger Renault 10, introduced in 1965. The 8 was launched in 1962 and ceased production and sales in France in 1973. Douglas Seymour Whiteford (1914 – 15 January 1979) was an Australian racing driver. John Roxburgh (racing Driver)
John Bayles Roxburgh (25 April 1932 – 2 August 1993) was an Australian racing driver, and motor sports administrator. Roxburgh's career was highlighted by taking victory in the original 1960 Armstrong 500 (known later as the Bathurst 1000), co-driving a Vauxhall Cresta with Frank Coad. Roxburgh continued to race touring cars well into the 1970s, most notably racing for the factory supported Nissan Motors, Datsun Racing Team. The Ford Cortina is a medium-sized family car manufactured in various body styles from 1962 to 1982. It was the United Kingdom's best-selling car of the 1970s. The Cortina was produced in five generations (Mark I through to Mark V, although officially the last one was only the Cortina 80 facelift of the Mk IV) from 1962 until 1982. From 1970 onward, it was almost identical to the German-market Ford Taunus (being built on the same platform), which was originally a different car model. This was part of Ford's attempt to unify its European operations. By 1976, when the revised Taunus was launched, the Cortina was identical. Datsun 510
The Datsun 510 was a series of the Datsun Bluebird sold from 1968 to 1973. Outside the US it was sold as either the Datsun Bluebird or as the Datsun 1300/1400/1500/1600/1800 (depending on engine variant). The rear-wheel drive 510's engineering was inspired by contemporary European sedans, particularly the 1966 BMW 1600-2 – incorporating an overhead camshaft engine and four-wheel independent suspension by means of MacPherson struts in front, and semi-trailing arms on the rear wheels. The styling is attributed to Datsun in-house designer, Teruo Uchino. Nissan USA president Yutaka Katayama pushed for offering this generation of the Bluebird with a larger overhead cam engine with more power than the preceding models. Hillman Gazelle
The Hillman Gazelle is an automobile which was produced by Chrysler Australia from 1966 to 1967. Based on the British Singer Gazelle Series VI, the Hillman Gazelle was offered only as a four-door sedan and was essentially an upmarket version of the Hillman Minx VI. It was powered by a four-cylinder engine producing net, more than the Minx thanks to its aluminium cylinder head and twin-barreled Solex carburettor. This aluminium head engine was produced for the Sunbeam Rapier. Chrysler Australia replaced both the Minx and the Gazelle with the Hillman Arrow / Hunter range during 1967.
