The 1968 Barking Council election took place on 9 May 1968 to elect members of Barking London Borough Council in London, England. The whole council was up for election and the Labour Party stayed in overall control of the council. Background This election was the second local election since the borough was formed in 1964. Thus, incumbent councillors were seeking re-election for the first time. Labour was the only party that ran a full slate of candidates. Barking and Dagenham London Borough Council is the local authority for the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham in Greater London, England. It is a London borough council, one of 32 in London, the capital of the United Kingdom. It provides a broad range of local government services including Council Tax billing, libraries, social services, processing planning applications, waste collection and disposal, and it is a local education authority. Barking and Dagenham is divided into 17 wards, each electing three councillors. At the May 2022 election, the Labour Party won all 51 seats, for the fourth election in a row.
