The 1967 NHRA Winternationals (commonly known as the Winternats) were a National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) drag racing event, held at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, Auto Club Raceway, Pomona, California on 5 February. Events ''More Aggravation III'' took home both the AA/CD (Supercharging, supercharged A Competition Dragster) trophy and "Best Appearing Car" award. Results Top Fuel Top Fuel hosted a field of eight. Round One In round one, Jim Bollinger lost do Danny Ongais. Dave Beebe was defeated by Gene Goleman. Connie Kalitta, Conrad "Connie" Kalitta eliminated Mike Snively. National Hot Rod Association
The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) is a drag racing governing body, which sets rules in drag racing and hosts events all over the United States and Canada. With over 40,000 drivers in its rosters, the NHRA claims to be the largest motorsports sanctioning body in the world. The association was founded by Wally Parks in 1951 in California to provide a governing body to organize and promote the sport of drag racing. NHRA's first Nationals was held in 1955, in Great Bend, Kansas. The NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series, the national event series which comprises 24 races each year, is the premier series in drag racing that brings together the best drag racers from across North America and the world. The NHRA U.S. Nationals are now held at Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg, Indiana and are officially called the U.S. Nationals. Kelly Brown (drag Racer)
Kelly Brown (born 8 June 1982) is a Scottish rugby union coach and former player. He won 64 caps for the Scotland national team, and played club rugby for Glasgow Warriors, Border Reivers and Saracens as a flanker. He retired from playing in 2017 to become a coach with Saracens' academy. Brown moved to an Assistant Coach position at Glasgow Warriors in 2020 before returning to Saracens in 2021. Early life Brown was born on 8 June 1982 in Edinburgh, and grew up in Melrose in the Scottish Borders, attending Earlston High School . Club career Brown played professionally for Border Reivers until the end of the 2006–07 season, when the club was disbanded. After that he played for the Glasgow Warriors. Top Gas
Top Gas (T/G) is a former NHRA drag racing professional class. Analogous to Top Fuel, Top Gas was a pro class, and allowed dragsters (T/GD) as well as bodied cars. Several noteworthy cars ran in Top Gas. One of the early streamliners, ''Scuderia'', made her debut at the 1963 NHRA Winternationals at Pomona, California, recording a best pass of 8.83 seconds at . Winged Express (Altered)
''Winged Express'' is a supercharged A Fuel Altered (AA/FA). On 28 September 1967, it was the first Altered to exceed . History ''Winged Express'' was built in 1960 by driver William "Wild Willie" Borsch and partner Al Marcellus, assisted by Howard Johansen ( Howard's Cams), Don Reynolds, Phil Johnson, Dale Young, and Jerry Hyatt. The car's 392 hemi was built by Jim Harrell (of Jim's Auto Parts). The body, donated by Curt Hamilton, was the first Cal Automotive fiberglass 1923 Model T used on an Altered. When completed, the car had a simple hoop rollbar and narrow slicks, with the engine tilted upward to aid traction, and was missing the rollbar-mounted wing that later became its trademark. Altered is a former National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) drag racing class and a current drag racing chassis configuration that forms the basis of many classes of NHRA Competition Eliminator. Lew Russell Robinson (June 2, 1933 – February 6, 1971), nicknamed "Sneaky Pete", was an American drag racer. Biography Robinson was born in Atlanta, Georgia. Robinson was born Lew Russell Robinson but is best known as Pete or "Sneaky Pete". Pete is the son of Olaf Robinson brother to Lowell Galen Robinson or "LG". Olaf had two sons Torch and Pete Robinson. Pete married wife Sandra Robinson on October,27th 1962, at the family home in Fitzgerald. Jerry Ruth
Jerry (The King) Ruth is a former professional drag racer who raced in the "golden age of drag racing" in the 1960s and 1970s. He was known as drag racing's "King of the Northwest". Racing career Ruth began his career at young age. He raced several kinds of gas-powered coups and sedans in the late 1950s and early 60's along with his brother John. In early 1963 he purchased Chevy gas-powered dragster from the Bier brothers of southern California and after racing in the A/GD gasoline classes, he started experimenting with nitro-fueled dragsters later that year. He began building several cars and amassed various wins and track records. Ruth captured the NHRA Division 6 title five years from 1964–69 and began referring to himself as "The King".
