1963 VFL Grand Final
The 1963 VFL Grand Final was an Australian rules football game contested between the Geelong Football Club and Hawthorn Football Club, held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne on 5 October 1963. It was the 66th annual Grand Final of the Victorian Football League, staged to determine the premiers for the 1963 VFL season. Ian Scott (Australian Rules Footballer)
Ian Scott (born 7 March 1940) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the VFL during the 1960s. Scott played in the back pocket for Geelong and was a premiership player in his first season at the club. Doug Wade
Douglas Graeme Wade (born 16 October 1941) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Geelong Football Club and North Melbourne Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He was the League's leading goal scorer (winning the Coleman Medal) on four occasions from 1962 until 1974. He was only the second player (after Collingwood's Gordon Coventry), and the first post-WW2 to kick over 1,000 goals in his career. Only four other players – Gary Ablett Snr (Hawthorn/Geelong), Jason Dunstall (Hawthorn), Tony Lockett (St Kilda/Sydney) and Lance Franklin (Hawthorn/Sydney) have emulated the effort. John Yeates
John Yeates (born 30 August 1938) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family His son Mark played at Geelong in the 1980s and became famous for his part in the 1989 VFL Grand Final. Football Geelong's captain in 1961 and 1962, Yeates was a member of their premiership side in 1963 and kicked two goals in the grand final. John Sharrock
John Sharrock (born 16 February 1944) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the VFL during the 1960s. Football Sharrock played most of his career as a half forward flanker and was a premiership player in 1963, his first season at Geelong. On 6 July 1963 he was a member of the Geelong team that were comprehensively and unexpectedly beaten by Fitzroy, 9.13 (67) to 3.13 (31) in the 1963 Miracle Match. Due to an injury to Roy West, he spent the first half of 1966 playing at fullback before moving to centre-half forward for the second half of the season. He had his best season, finishing third in the Brownlow Medal count. In 1968 he suffered a career ending knee injury during an Inter-League game and despite having represented Victoria at interstate football earlier in the season it would be his last year in the game. Fred Wooller
Fred Wooller (born 21 October 1938) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the VFL. Football Recruited from Bacchus Marsh, Wooller started his career as a full forward and topped Geelong's goalkicking with 56 goals in 1957, his tally being the equal second highest in the league for that season. He was rewarded with selection in the interstate carnival where he represented Victoria. He was the Geelong's leading goalkicker again in 1959 as well as in 1960, where he played at centre half forward and won the Carji Greeves Medal for the club's best and fairest. Gordon Hynes (footballer)
Gordon James Hynes (born 6 November 1944) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the VFL during the 1960s. Hynes made his league debut in the 1963 season and ended the year as a Geelong premiership player, kicking 3 goals in the grand final. One year earlier Hynes played in Geelong's Under 19's premiership side. Alistair Lord
Alistair Lord (born 9 April 1940) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Geelong during the late 1950s to the mid-1960s. Lord played as a centreman and debuted in 1959. He won the Brownlow Medal in 1962 comfortably, as well as the Carji Greeves Medal, averaging 30 disposals a game for the year. Hugh Francis Routley (19 June 1940 – 12 September 2020) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the VFL. Routley debuted in 1959 and managed to play just 8 games coming into the 1963 season. Stewart Lord (9 April 1940 - 4 March 2022) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the VFL during the early 1960s. He was the twin brother of Brownlow Medal winning teammate Alistair Lord. Lord usually played at halfback although he played his first season in the forward line when he kicked all of his 13 career goals. On 6 July 1963 he was a member of the Geelong team that were comprehensively and unexpectedly beaten by Fitzroy, 9.13 (67) to 3.13 (31) in the 1963 Miracle Match.
