The 1963 Rose Bowl was the 49th Rose Bowl Game, edition of the college football bowl game, played at the Rose Bowl (stadium), Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California on Tuesday, January 1, at the end of the 1962 NCAA University Division football season, 1962 season. The top-ranked 1962 USC Trojans football team, USC Trojans defeated the 1962 Wisconsin Badgers football team, Wisconsin Badgers, 42–37. The Associated Press and United Press International both awarded the national championship to USC in early December 1962, a month before the game was played, and the UPI's national championship trophy was presented to USC on the day before the game was played. Milt Bruhn
Milton Caspar Bruhn (July 28, 1912 – May 14, 1991) was an American football player and coach. He served as the head coach at the University of Wisconsin–Madison from 1956 to 1966, compiling a record of 52–45–6 (.534). Bruhn led the Wisconsin Badgers to two outright Big Ten Conference championships in 1959 and 1962. His teams had two straight seven-win seasons, in 1958 and 1959, and an 8–2 record in 1962, with the two losses coming at Ohio State, 14–7, and against #1 USC, 42–37, in the 1963 Rose Bowl. Wisconsin ended the 1962 season with a #2 ranking, which remain the highest AP Poll and UPI/Coaches' Poll season-ending rankings for the Wisconsin football program in the history of these polls. The 1953 Rose Bowl was the 39th edition of the college football bowl game, played at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, on Thursday, January 1, at the end of the 1952 college football season. The fifth-ranked USC Trojans of the Pacific Coast Conference defeated the #11 Wisconsin Badgers of the Big Ten Conference, 7–0. It was Wisconsin's first bowl game and the first Rose Bowl appearance for the Trojans in five years. It is also the first meeting of the two football programs.
