The 1963 Davis Cup was the 52nd edition of the Davis Cup, the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. 32 teams entered the Europe Zone, 9 teams entered the Eastern Zone, and 7 teams entered the America Zone. Rhodesia made its first appearance in the tournament. The United States defeated Venezuela in the America Zone final, India defeated Japan in the Eastern Zone final, and Great Britain defeated Sweden in the Europe Zone final. In the Inter-Zonal Zone, the United States defeated Great Britain in the semifinal, and then defeated India in the final. The United States then defeated the defending champions Australia in the Challenge Round, ending Australia's four-year title run. Arthur Ashe
Arthur Robert Ashe Jr. (July 10, 1943 – February 6, 1993) was an American professional tennis player. He won three Grand Slam (tennis)#Tournaments, Grand Slam titles in singles and two in doubles. Ashe was the first Black player selected to the United States Davis Cup team, and the only Black man ever to win the singles titles at Wimbledon Championships, Wimbledon, the US Open (tennis), US Open, and the Australian Open. He retired in 1980. Isaías "Iyo" S. Pimentel (16 February 1933 – 26 June 2017) was a Venezuelan international tennis player. He was a quarter finalist in singles at the 1961 Wimbledon Championships. He was active from 1952 to 1974 and won 6 career singles titles. Playing career Born on the Dutch island of Curaçao in 1933, Pimentel was three times Curaçaoan champion. Marty Riessen (born December 4, 1941) is an American former amateur and professional tennis player active from the 1960s to the 1980s. He was ranked as high as No. 11 in the world in singles on the ATP rankings in September 1974, though was ranked as high as world No. 8 by Lance Tingay of ''The Daily Telegraph'' in 1971 before the computer rankings. Richard Dennis Ralston (July 27, 1942 – December 6, 2020) was an American professional tennis player whose active career spanned the 1960s and 1970s. As a young player, he was coached by tennis pro Pancho Gonzales. He attended the University of Southern California (USC) and won NCAA championships under its coach George Toley. He and partner Bill Bond captured the NCAA doubles title in 1964. Cherry Hills Country Club is a private country club in the western United States, located in Cherry Hills Village, Colorado, a suburb south of Denver. Founded in 1922 and designed by William Flynn, the club features a championship 18-hole golf course, a 9-hole par three course, eight tennis courts, and a lap pool.
