1962 LPGA Tour
The 1962 LPGA Tour was the 13th season since the LPGA Tour officially began in 1950. The season ran from January 19 to November 4. The season consisted of 29 official money events. Mickey Wright won the most tournaments, 10. She also led the money list with earnings of $21,641. The first LPGA Tour awards, Rookie of the Year was won by Mary Mills (golfer), Mary Mills. There were four first-time winners in 1962: Shirley Englehorn, Sandra Haynie, who would win 42 LPGA events, Murle Lindstrom, and Kathy Whitworth, who would win a record 88 LPGA events. The season saw the last wins of Louise Suggs (58 career wins) and Patty Berg (60). It also saw the first and only official win by a man, Sam Snead in the Royal Poinciana Plaza Invitational. Mickey Wright
Mary Kathryn "Mickey" Wright (February 14, 1935 – February 17, 2020) was an American professional golfer who played on the LPGA Tour. She became a member of the tour in 1955 and won 82 LPGA Tour career events including 13 major championships. She is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. Early life and amateur career Wright was born on February 14, 1935, in San Diego, California, where she attended Herbert Hoover High School. Her first important title was the 1952 U.S. Girls' Junior. She attended Stanford University and played for its golf team, but left before graduation. She lost in the final of the 1954 U.S. Women's Amateur, won the 1954 World Amateur Championship, and turned professional later in 1954. Professional career Wright joined the LPGA Tour in 1955. Mary Lena Faulk
Mary Lena Faulk (April 15, 1926 – August 3, 1995) was an American professional golfer. Faulk was born in Chipley, Florida. At the age of 14 she moved to Thomasville, Georgia, where she won three consecutive Georgia Women's Amateur Matchplay Championships from 1946 to 1948. In 1953, Faulk won the U.S. Women's Amateur. In 1954 she lost in the semi-finals to Mickey Wright. That year she was a member of the U.S. team that defeated Great Britain to win the Curtis Cup and in Georgia, she won the state's 1954 Medal Play Championship. Faulk turned professional in 1955 and in her rookie year on the LPGA Tour finished second at the U.S. Women's Open. She retired from the pro tour in 1965 having won 10 tournaments including the Women's Western Open which was then one of the women's major golf championships. 1962 Titleholders Championship
The 1962 Titleholders Championship was the 23rd Titleholders Championship, held April 26–30 at Augusta Country Club in Augusta, Georgia. Defending champion Mickey Wright sank a ten-foot (3 m) putt for par on the 72nd hole to tie Ruth Jessen and force the first playoff in the event's history. Wright won the 18-hole playoff by three strokes, 69 to 72, to repeat as champion. Barbara Romack held a five-shot lead after 36 holes, but finished two strokes back in solo third.
