1962 FIFA World Cup Final
The 1962 FIFA World Cup final was the deciding match of the 1962 FIFA World Cup. The match was held at the Estadio Nacional in Santiago, and was contested by Czechoslovakia and Brazil. Brazil won the game 3–1 to record their second consecutive World Cup victory. Both teams had played each other during the group stage which ended in a goalless draw. This was the second World Cup final match featuring teams who had already competed against each other during the group stage (the first was the 1954 final between Hungary and West Germany). This event was on Sunday, June 17, 1962. This was only the second successful defence of the World Cup title in the history of the competition (after Italy in 1938) in spite of the absence of one of Brazil's star players of 1958, Pelé, who was ruled out of action after being injured during the second match of the tournament. Time in Chile is divided into three time zones. Most of Continental Chile uses the time offset UTC−04:00 in winter time and UTC−03:00 in summer time, while the Aysén Region and the Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica region uses the time offset UTC−03:00 the whole year. Vavá
Edvaldo Izidio Neto (12 November 1934 – 19 January 2002), commonly known as Vavá, was a Brazilian professional footballer who is widely considered to be one of the greatest strikers of his generation. Nicknamed "Peito de Aço" (Steel Chest), he most notably played for Vasco da Gama, Atlético Madrid, Palmeiras and the Brazil national team. International career Vavá earned twenty caps with the Brazil national team between 1955 and 1964, scoring a total of fifteen goals. He was in the side that won both the 1958 and 1962 FIFA World Cups, in which he scored five and four goals, respectively. Zito (footballer, Born 1932)
José Ely de Miranda (8 August 1932 – 14 June 2015), commonly known as Zito, was a Brazilian footballer who played as a midfielder. He is regarded as one of the biggest idols of Santos FC, the club he represented for 15 years, captaining a side including Pelé to domestic and international successes. He was also part of the Brazilian squads which won the World Cup in 1958 and 1962. Viliam Schrojf
Viliam Schrojf (2 August 1931 – 1 September 2007) was a Slovak footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He received 39 caps for Czechoslovakia. Career Schrojf was a participant at the three consecutive World Cups 1954 FIFA World Cup, 1958 FIFA World Cup and at the 1962 FIFA World Cup, where Czechoslovakia surprised the world and went through to the final, losing to champions Brazil. The success of Czechoslovakia was largely attributed to Schrojf's superb performance. The final however proved to be a black day for Schrojf, with two Brazilian goals resulting from his mistakes. Josef Masopust
Josef Masopust (9 February 1931 – 29 June 2015) was a Czech football player and coach. He played as midfielder and was a key player for Czechoslovakia, helping them reach the 1962 FIFA World Cup Final. He was capped 63 times, scoring ten goals for his national team. He was named European Footballer of the Year in 1962. In November 2003, to celebrate UEFA's Jubilee, Masopust was selected as his country's Golden Player by the Football Association of the Czech Republic as their most outstanding player of the past 50 years. He was named by Pelé as one of the top 125 greatest living footballers in March 2004. He is regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time. Adolf Scherer
Adolf Scherer (5 May 1938 – 22 July 2023) was a Slovak footballer who played as a striker. He was of Carpathian German descent. He played 36 games and scored 22 goals for the Czechoslovakia national team. Scherer represented Czechoslovakia at the 1960 European Nations' Cup and 1958 FIFA World Cup, where he did not play any match. In the 1962 FIFA World Cup, he again played for the Czechoslovak national team where he proved himself to be a valuable player. They made it to the final match against Brazil, and Scherer assisted Josef Masopust in Czechoslovakia's first and only goal of the game. Josef Jelínek (9 January 1941 – 29 November 2024) was a Czech footballer who played as a forward. He made 10 appearances for the Czechoslovakia national team, scoring twice.
