1961 Natal Grand Prix
The 1st Natal Grand Prix was a motor race, run to South African Formula One-style rules, held on 17 December 1961 at Westmead Circuit, South Africa. The race was run over 89 laps of the circuit, and was won by British driver Jim Clark, in his Lotus 21. There were no great differences between the local rules to which this race was run and the international Formula One rules, but for example sports car bodies were permitted, such as the Porsche special driven by Jennings. Clark led the race from start to finish, with only Stirling Moss Sir Stirling Craufurd Moss (17 September 1929 – 12 April 2020) was a British Formula One racing driver. Doug Serrurier
Louis Douglas Serrurier (9 December 1920 in Germiston – 4 June 2006) was a racing driver and racing car constructor from South Africa. He participated in 3 Formula One World Championship Grands Prix in the 1960s, only racing in the South African Grand Prix event, debuting on 29 December 1962. He scored no championship points. Racing car constructor Serrurier built a series of racing cars under the name of LDS, after his initials. The first was based on a Cooper, and later cars were based on Brabhams. The cars were raced mainly by Serrurier himself, and Sam Tingle. From the Cobra Club South Africa: "Louis Douglas Serrurier built about 20 LDS Cobras during the course of his race car building history. Bruce Johnstone (racing Driver)
William Bruce Gordon Johnstone (30 January 1937 – 3 March 2022) was a South African racing driver. He participated in one Formula One (F1) World Championship Grand Prix, on 29 December 1962. He scored no championship points. He also competed in the F1 non-championship 1962 Oulton Park Gold Cup where he finished fourth and in the South African Formula 1 Championship. Johnstone died on 3 March 2022, at the age of 85. John Trevor Blokdyk (30 November 1935 in Krugersdorp, Transvaal – 19 March 1995 in was a South African motorcycle speedway rider and Formula One driver who participated in two World Championship Grands Prix, although qualifying for only one.
