Earle Edwards
Earle Edwards (November 10, 1908 – February 25, 1997) was an American football player and coach. He served as the head football coach at North Carolina State University from 1954 to 1970, compiling a record of 77–88–8. Edwards is the longest tenured coach in NC State Wolfpack football history and holds the program records for games coached, wins, and losses. His teams won five Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) titles and made two Liberty Bowl appearances. Four times he was named the ACC Coach of the Year. NC State–Wake Forest Rivalry
The NC State–Wake Forest rivalry is a series of athletic contests between in-state rivals, the North Carolina State University Wolfpack and the Wake Forest University Demon Deacons. The first game was played in 1895 between the two institutions. Wake Forest was originally located in Wake Forest, North Carolina (approximately 18 miles NNE of NCSU's campus in Raleigh) until it moved its campus across the state of North Carolina to Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 1956. The two universities are members of the Atlantic Coast Conference, where they meet every year in football due to being aligned in the Atlantic Division. 1958 Clemson Tigers Football Team
The 1958 Clemson Tigers football team was an American football team that represented Clemson College in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) during the 1958 NCAA University Division football season. In its 19th season under head coach Frank Howard, the team compiled an 8–3 record (5–1 against conference opponents), won the ACC championship, was ranked No. 12 in the final AP Poll (No. 13 Coaches Poll), and outscored opponents by a total of 169 to 138. The team played its home games at Memorial Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina. Coach Frank Howard's 100th win came September 27 against North Carolina. Clemson also played its first game against a No. 1 ranked team when it played LSU in the 1959 Sugar Bowl. Center Bill Thomas was the team captain.
