1958 FIFA World Cup
The 1958 FIFA World Cup was the sixth FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial football tournament for men's senior national teams, and was played in Sweden from 8 to 29 June 1958. It was the first FIFA World Cup to be played in a Nordic country. Brazil beat Sweden 5–2 in the final in the Stockholm suburb of Solna to claim their first title. The tournament also marked the arrival of a then 17-year-old Pelé on the world stage. This was the first appearance of Wales at the FIFA World Cup and they would not qualify for another until 64 years later. There were also debut appearances for Northern Ireland and the Soviet Union. Host selection Argentina, Chile, Mexico, and Sweden expressed interest in hosting the tournament. Sigge Parling
Sigvard Emanuel "Sigge" Parling (26 March 1930 – 17 September 2016) was a Swedish football player. He also played ice hockey and bandy. During his career he played for Djurgårdens IF (1949–1960), IK Sirius (1960–1963) and Gefle IF (1963–1965). His position was left midfielder and was considered a very rough but fair player. During his time in Djurgården he was known as the first '' Järnkamin'' (Iron Stove). Parling was capped 195 times for Djurgården and scored 12 goals. He won the Swedish Championship twice with Djurgårdens IF, 1955 and 1959. Parling was part of the legendary Swedish national team at the 1958 FIFA World Cup and was capped 37 times for his country. Parling is the only player from Djurgårdens IF who has played a World Cup Final. He died on 17 September 2016 at the age of 86. Salvador Reyes Monteón
Salvador Reyes Monteón (September 20, 1936 – December 29, 2012) was a Mexican professional footballer. He played for Guadalajara with 122 goals and 7 championships. Reyes won his first championship in 1957, from then on the club became unstoppable, winning six more titles. He was the last member from the club to win Campeon de Goleo (Goal scorer champion) until Omar Bravo won it on April 28, 2007 with 11 goals. It had been 45 years since a player from Guadalajara won the Campeon de Goleo. Goal scorers Salvador Reyes won cups and scored 14 goals for the football team from 1956 to 1966, and participated in three FIFA World Cups: 1958, 1962, 1966. José Gerardo "Jamaicón" Villegas Tavares (20 June 1934 – 24 December 2021) was a Mexican footballer who played as a defender for the Mexico national team at the 1958 and 1962 World Cup matches. Biography Villegas was born in the neighborhood of “La Experiencia” in Zapopan and as many in his town he was a textile industry worker. In his infancy he was nicknamed “Jamaicón” because he cried too much (in some regions of Mexico, “Jamaicón” is considered a polite way to call someone a whiner). José de Jesús del Muro López (30 November 1937 – 4 October 2022) was a Mexican football coach and player. During his career he played as a defender for Atlas (1954–1965), Veracruz (1965), Cruz Azul (1966 and 1971) and Toluca (1969 and 1973). George Raynor
George Sidney Raynor (13 January 1907 – 24 November 1985) was an English professional footballer and one of the most successful international football managers ever. One of his greatest achievements was taking the Sweden national football team to a World Cup final, and he also managed them to an Olympic gold medal.
