1957 European Amateur Boxing Championships
The 1957 European Amateur Boxing Championships were held in Prague, Czechoslovakia, from May 25 to June 2. The 12th edition of the bi-annual competition was organised by the European governing body for amateur boxing, EABA. There were 149 fighters from 21 countries participating. Giovanni "Nino" Benvenuti (born 26 April 1938) is an Italian former professional boxer and actor. He held world titles in two weight classes, having held the undisputed super-welterweight championship from June 1965 to June 1966 and the undisputed middleweight championship twice, from April to September 1967, and from March 1968 to November 1970. As an amateur welterweight boxer he won the Italian title in 1956–60, the European title in 1957 and 1959, and an Olympic gold medal in 1960, receiving the Val Barker trophy for boxing style. Fred Tiedt
Frederick Tiedt (16 October 1935 – 15 June 1999, born in Dublin, Ireland) was an amateur and professional boxer. Amateur career Tiedt won a silver medal for Ireland at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia in the welterweight division. Tiedt beat opponents from Poland, the United States, and Australia before losing a split decision to Nicolae Linca of Romania. The following year Tiedt won a bronze medal at the European Amateur Boxing Championships in Prague. Ilija Lukić (Serbian Cyrillic: Илија Лукић; 21 January 1942 – 13 June 2018) was a Serbian footballer who played as a forward. Playing career Lukić started playing in the youth teams of Belgrade's FK Železnik. In 1961, at age 19, he joined Second League FK Priština and he was soon regarded as one of the finest strikers in the country. That made attention turn to him and he signed with the FK Partizan that was having that season their historic achievement of reaching the 1966 European Cup Final that they lost to Real Madrid. After not getting many opportunities to play, he was moving next season to the California based Oakland Clippers where he would help the club win the 1967 National Professional Soccer League. Vladimir Yengibaryan
Vladimir Yengibaryan ( hy, Վլադիմիր Ենգիբարյան, 24 April 1932 – 1 February 2013) was a Soviet and Armenian amateur light-welterweight boxer. He was an Olympic champion, three-time European champion and three-time Soviet champion. In 1956 he was named the Honoured Master of Sports of the USSR and awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour. During his career he won 255 out of 267 bouts. Boxing career Yengibaryan was born as a fourth child. He took up boxing in 1946, training in Yerevan first with Artyom Arutyunov and then with Edward Aristakesyan. Yengibaryan won a bronze medal in the bantamweight division at the 1951 Soviet Championships, and next year was included to the Soviet national team. He did not compete at the 1952 Summer Olympics due to an injury.
