1956 New Zealand Rugby League Tour Of Australia
The 1956 New Zealand rugby league tour of Australia was the eighteenth tour by New Zealand's national rugby league team, and the thirteenth tour to visit Australia. The fifteen-match tour included three Test Matches. The touring team began with a pair of wins but then lost the next two, against Newcastle and the First Test in Sydney. Five strong performances in Queensland followed, with wins by wide margins in high-scoring matches. In contrast, the Second Test was a low-scoring match, Australia winning 8 to 2 to secure their first Trans-Tasman series win since 1935. New Zealand lost the Third Test, and thus the series three-nil, and also the two tour matches that followed. Leadership The team was captained by Tommy Baxter. John Edward Bond (10 December 1931 – 10 March 2024) was a New Zealand rugby league footballer and coach. He played for New Zealand national rugby league team, New Zealand at the 1954 Rugby League World Cup, 1954 World Cup. John Dufty Lasher (15 November 1932 – 17 June 2015) was a New Zealand rugby league footballer who represented New Zealand. Playing career Lasher played for Richmond and represented Auckland. Cliff Johnson (rugby League)
Clifford Raymond Johnson (27 October 1928 – 27 July 2003) was a New Zealand rugby league footballer who has been named one of the finest the country produced during the 20th century. An international representative, he played mainly as a prop forward. Playing career Johnson played for the Richmond Bulldogs in the Auckland Rugby League competition. From here he represented Auckland and New Zealand. Between 1950 and 1960 he played a total of 34 tests for New Zealand, a new record at the time of his retirement. He also played in three World Cup tournaments. Including minor tour matches, Johnson played a total of 70 matches for New Zealand. Tom Hadfield (rugby League)
Bernard Tom Hadfield (11 December 1934 – 16 May 2018) was a New Zealand rugby league footballer who represented New Zealand in the 1957 and 1960 World Cups and retired as the highest try-scorer in the New Zealand national side's history. Playing career A Northcote Tigers player, Hadfield was an Auckland representative. He was part of the Northcote club during the Auckland Rugby League's district era and so played for Northern Districts - an amalgamation of the Northcote and North Shore clubs. Hadfield first made the New Zealand national rugby league team in 1956. He went on to play 15 Tests for the Kiwis, including at the 1957 and 1960 World Cups. After the 1960 World Cup Tom played for the Rest of the World vs Great Britain. He finished his career with a then-record 15 tries for the Kiwis, five more than the previous record.
