Shreyans Prasad Jain
Sahu Shreyans Prasad Jain (1908–1992) (also spelled as Shriyans Prasad Jain) was an Indian businessman, parliamentarian and a prominent member of the Jain community. He was the brother of notable businessman and philanthropist Sahu Shanti Prasad Jain. He was awarded Padma Bhushan for social work in 1988. Life Shreyans Prasad was born in 1908 to the Sahu Jain family of Najibabad, related to The Times of India Group and the Dalmia Group. He took over the India's first soda ash factory founded in Dhrangadhra (est. 1925), and established the Dhrangadhra Chemical Works in 1939. He was the founder-chairman of this company, which is now known as DCW. His business group consisted of 12 companies in 1965. Violet Alva
Violet Hari Alva (24 April 1908 – 20 November 1969) was an Indian lawyer, journalist and politician, and Deputy Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha, and member of the Indian National Congress (INC). She was the first woman lawyer to appear before a High Court in India and the first to preside over the Rajya Sabha. Early life Alva was born Violet Hari on 24 April 1908 in Ahmedabad. She was the eighth of nine children. Violet's father, Reverend Laxman Hari, was one of the first Indian pastors of the Church of England. Having lost both her parents when she was sixteen, her older siblings provided for her education until her matriculation at Bombay's Clare Road Convent. She graduated from St. Xavier's College, Bombay and Government Law College. For a while thereafter, she was a professor of English at the Indian Women's University, Bombay. Abid Ali Jaferbhai (1899/1900 - 26 June 1973) was a leader of Congress(I) from Bombay, Maharashtra. He became a member of the Bombay Legislative Council in 1947. He was a founder member of the Indian National Trade Union Congress and its Vice-President. As such, he was closely related to the Governing Body of the International Labour Office (ILO).
