1952 Davis Cup
The 1952 Davis Cup was the 41st edition of the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. 23 teams entered in the Europe Zone, 5 teams entered in the America Zone, and India was the sole competitor in the new Eastern Zone. The United States defeated Canada in the America Zone final, and Italy defeated Belgium in the Europe Zone final. In the Inter-Zonal Zone, Italy defeated India in the semifinal, and then lost to the United States in the final. In the Challenge Round the United States fell to the defending champions Australia. The final was played at the Memorial Drive Park in Adelaide, Australia on 29–31 December. The 1951 Davis Cup was the 40th edition of the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. 21 teams entered the Europe Zone, and 5 teams entered the America Zone. The Europe Zone began using a seeding system, where the previous year's quarterfinalists were guaranteed a bye in the first round. The United States defeated Canada in the America Zone final, and Sweden defeated West Germany in the Europe Zone final. The USA defeated Sweden in the Inter-Zonal play-off, but fell to defending champions Australia in the Challenge Round. The final was played at White City Stadium in Sydney, Australia on 26–28 December. Bob Perry (tennis)
Robert 'Bob' Perry (March 17, 1933 – October 23, 2023) was an American male tennis player who was active in the 1950s and 1960s. Tennis career Perry started playing tennis in 1944 at age eleven. He won the National 15 and under singles and doubles titles. Perry won the Germantown Cricket Club Invitation in 1954 at Philadelphia, U.S. defeating Barry MacKay (tennis), Barry MacKay and in the final Herb Flam. He won the inaugural singles title at the ITF ATP Auckland Open, Auckland Championships in 1956, defeating Allan Burns in the final. Brendan Macken (tennis)
Brendan H. Macken (21 January 1923 – 12 March 2020) was a Canadian Open tennis champion and Davis Cup player. He was ranked the No. 1 tennis player in Canada for 1950 and 1952. Career Originally from Montreal, Macken won the 1950 Canadian Open, in singles, by defeating defending champion Henri Rochon in the final in three straight sets. Macken had defeated French Davis Cup players Robert Haillet and Robert Abdesselam to reach the final. Despite this convincing victory, it would be his only Canadian Open championship singles title. He also won the doubles crown twice - in 1946 with his brother Jim and in 1951 partnering Lorne Main.
