1950 FIFA World Cup Final Round
The final round of the 1950 FIFA World Cup took place from 9 to 16 July 1950. The final round consisted of Brazil national football team, Brazil, Spain national football team, Spain, Sweden men's national football team, Sweden, and Uruguay national football team, Uruguay. The winner of the final round was declared champions of the World Cup. Uruguay won the tournament, defeating hosts Brazil in the Uruguay v Brazil (1950 FIFA World Cup), decisive match for their second World Cup title. 1950 FIFA World Cup
The 1950 FIFA World Cup was the 4th edition of the FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international Association football, football championship for senior men's national teams. It was held in Brazil from 24 June to 16 July 1950. It was the first World Cup tournament in over twelve years, as the 1942 and 1946 World Cups were cancelled due to World War II. Italy national football team, Italy, the two-time defending champions, were eliminated in the first round for the first time in history. Sandy Griffiths
Benjamin Mervyn "Sandy" Griffiths (17 January 1909 – 21 January 1974) was a Welsh football referee from Abertillery, Monmouthshire. In his professional life he was a teacher. Career He first took up a teaching post in Devon but soon returned to Newport and began his refereeing career in 1934 in local leagues. Within five seasons he was appointed to the Football League list as a linesman and, after the War, refereed the England versus Scotland clash in 1949, and then the 1953 FA Cup Final, otherwise known as the Matthews Final. It was his decision, with two minutes remaining, that enabled Stan Mortensen to equalise from a free-kick awarded just outside the penalty area. Griffiths represented Wales at the 1950, 1954 and 1958 World Cup Finals. Thomaz Soares da Silva, also known as Zizinho (; 14 September 1921 – 8 February 2002), was a Brazilian footballer who played as an attacking midfielder for the Brazil national football team. He came to international prominence at the 1950 World Cup, where he scored two goals. He was lauded as a complete player, with an array of offensive skills such as his dribbling, passing, and shooting ability with both feet, as well as his accuracy from dead ball situations and extraordinary vision. Jair da Rosa Pinto (21 March 1921 – 28 July 2005), or simply Jair, was an association footballer who played offensive midfielder – one of the leading Brazilian men's footballers of the 1940s and 1950s, who is best remembered for his performance in Brazil's 1950 FIFA World Cup campaign. Ademir De Menezes
Ademir Marques de Menezes (; 8 November 1922 – 11 May 1996) was a Brazilian footballer, regarded as one of the best forwards in the country's history. His prominent underbite earned him the nickname (The Jaw). He was also the top goalscorer of the 1950 FIFA World Cup. Club career Ademir began his club career with Sport Recife before moving to Vasco da Gama. He played for Vasco for two spells, 1942–1945 and 1948–56, broken by a spell at Fluminense. Arthur Edward Ellis
Arthur Edward Ellis (8 July 1914 – 23 May 1999) was an English football referee. He was born in Halifax, West Riding of Yorkshire. Ellis was a referee in The Football Association competitions and in FIFA international competitions. He refereed at the 1950, 1954 and 1958 World Cups; running the line in the 1950 FIFA World Cup Final and Third Place Play-off in 1958 and refereeing the Third Place Play-off in 1954. Sune Isidor "Mona-Lisa" Andersson (22 February 1921 – 29 April 2002) was a Swedish football player and manager. He is best remembered for representing AIK and A.S. Roma during his club career. A full international between 1947 and 1950, he won 28 caps and scored four goals for the Sweden national team. He was on the Sweden teams that won gold at the 1948 Summer Olympics and finished third at the 1950 FIFA World Cup. Manuel Marinho Alves, best known as ''Maneca'' (January 28, 1926 – July 14, 1961), was an association footballer in striker role. He was born in Salvador Bahia, Brazil.
