Many Finns across the party lines believed that the communists and the Finnish People's Democratic League had pursued their goal of making Finland a solidly left-wing country too vigorously. They had even held the prime ministership since March 1946, with Mauno Pekkala serving in that position. They had organized many mass meetings, demanded the dismissal of "reactionary" (especially right-wing) civil servants and claimed that the Finnish government had to adopt even a friendlier relationship with the Soviet Union. The Parliament of Finland ( ; ) is the Unicameralism, unicameral and Parliamentary sovereignty, supreme legislature of Finland, founded on 9 May 1906. The Agreement of Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance of 1948, also known as the YYA Treaty from the Finnish () ( Swedish: was the basis for Finno–Soviet relations from 1948 to 1992. It was the main instrument in implementing the Finnish policy called Paasikivi–Kekkonen doctrine. Lapland (parliamentary Electoral District)
Lapland is a Finnish constituency represented in the eduskunta. It covers the administrative region of Lapland, with a population, as of its most recent accessible calculation in 2002, of 187,777. Lapland currently elects seven members to the eduskunta.The constituency is largely rural, and the only cities in the area are small. Thus, the dominant party has traditionally been the rural Centre Party. The second party that holds major influence in the area is the SKDL/ Left Alliance. Radical People's Party (Finland)
Radical People's Party () was a Finnish radical populist socialist political party led by . The party was active in the 1940s and 1950s. The Radicals participated three times in the parliamentary elections and once in the municipal elections. They were left without MPs, but Hentunen served in the Helsinki City Council in 1948–1950. The party paper was '' Totuuden Torvi'' ("Horn of Truth"). History Founding The Radical People's Party was founded after the end of the Continuation War as Ernesti Hentunen began arranging a new political organization. Small Farmers Party
Party of Smallholders and Rural People (, PMP), later renamed as the Small Farmers Party (''Pienviljelijäin puolue''), was a political party in Finland. The party was founded in Seinäjoki on December 20, 1936, through the unification of Small Farmers' Party of Finland (SPP), People's Party and Central League of Recession Committees. Most members of the new party came from the SPP and the organization was mainly built on the basis of the SPP. Eino Yliruusi became chairman of the new party. The PMP had mainly a populist profile. However, because of the radical rhetoric of Yliruusi and the party's negative attitude to fascism and war, it was also seen as leftist. Some sections and members of the PMP had links to the underground Communist Party of Finland, who favoured cooperation with PMP as part of its popular front policy.
