1947 Alsace Grand Prix
The 2nd Grand Prix de l'Alsace was a Grand Prix motor race held at Strasbourg-Neudorf in France on 3 August 1947. The race was won by Luigi Villoresi, who started from pole and set fastest lap, in a Maserati 4CL. Yves Giraud-Cabantous was second in a Talbot-Lago T26SS and Louis Rosier third in a Talbot-Lago T150SS. Eugene Chaboud took part in Saturday practice in a mysterious new car, but after inspection the car was banned from the event after it was found that his car was not French as Chaboud pretended, but a German-built Veritas. The Veritas team left the track under military police escort, and Chaboud took part in the race in a Delahaye 135 he drove in Friday practice. The race was delayed by one hour due to a freak incident involving grand marshal Paul Freiss and 1947 Isle of Man TT podium finisher Peter Goodman in the 500cc bike support race. Jean-Pierre Wimille (26 February 1908 – 28 January 1949) was a Grand Prix motor racing driver and a member of the French Resistance during World War II. Biography Born in Paris, France to a father who loved motor sports and was employed as the motoring correspondent for the Petit Parisien newspaper, Jean-Pierre Wimille developed a fascination with racing cars at a young age. Delage
Delage was a French luxury automobile and racecar company founded in 1905 by Louis Delâge in Levallois-Perret near Paris; it was acquired by Delahaye in 1935 and ceased operation in 1953. Antonio Branca (15 September 1916, Sion, Switzerland – 10 May 1985, Sierre, Switzerland) was a Formula One driver from Switzerland who competed in three World Championship races. His motor racing career was allegedly financed by an admiring Belgian countess, the Vicomtesse de Walkiers. Branca mainly competed in privately owned Maserati 4CLT, in Formula One and Two races. Louis Chiron
Louis Alexandre Chiron (3 August 1899 – 22 June 1979) was a Monégasque racing driver who competed in rallies, sports car races, and Grands Prix. Among the greatest drivers between the two World Wars, his career embraced over thirty years, starting in 1927, and ending at the end of the 1950s. He is still the oldest driver ever to have finished in Formula One, having taken 6th place in the 1955 Monaco Grand Prix when he was 55. Alberto Ascari
Alberto Ascari (; 13 July 1918 – 26 May 1955) was an Italian racing driver and a two time Formula One World Champion. He was a multitalented racer who competed in motorcycle racing before switching to cars. Ascari won consecutive world titles in 1952 and 1953 for Scuderia Ferrari. Edmond Mouche
Edmond Mouche (4 September 1899 – 12 May 1989) was a French racing driver. He drove Porsche's first Le Mans entry and took their first two class wins along with Auguste Veuillet. Career Mouche competed in the 1930 Grand Prix de Picardie driving an 1100cc Morano, but did not finish. He entered the 1931 Grand Prix de la Marne at Reims in a Bugatti Type 37A voiturette, but did not appear. Mouche took part in several races throughout 1947 in his privateer Talbot-Lago T150C. He partnered with José Scaron to finish 8th in Marseille, 10th in Nîmes, and 5th in the 1947 Reims Grand Prix.
