John Ferraro
John Ferraro (May 14, 1924 – April 17, 2001) was an American politician and businessman who was a Democratic member of the Los Angeles City Council from 1966 until his death in 2001, the longest tenure of any member in the city's history. Before politics, he was an insurance broker, and had been an all-American football player at the University of Southern California. Biography Parents and education Ferraro was born May 14, 1924, in the working class suburb of Cudahy, California, just south of Los Angeles, "the youngest son of a family of eight children whose Italian immigrant parents ran a macaroni factory before going broke during the Depression." Jim Hardy
James Francis Hardy (April 24, 1923 – August 16, 2019) was an American professional football quarterback. He was born in Los Angeles. Early life Hardy attended and played high school football at Fairfax High School in Los Angeles. College career Hardy played college football at the University of Southern California. He was voted most valuable player of the 1945 Rose Bowl game, won by USC 25–0 over Tennessee. Professional career Hardy was selected in the first round (eighth overall) of the 1945 NFL draft by the Washington Redskins. He played in the National Football League between 1946 and 1952. He made the Pro Bowl in 1950. Hardy is perhaps most famous for throwing an NFL-record eight interceptions in a single game, as well as for the worst touchdown pass-interception differential in a single game (−8), in a 45–7 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on September 24, 1950. Paul Thomas Salata (October 17, 1926 – October 16, 2021) was an American professional football player who was a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL), All-America Football Conference (AAFC) and Western Interprovincial Football Union (WIFU). Biography Paul Salata was born to a Serbian-born father and second generation Serbian-American mother. After his college football days at USC Salata played for the AAFC/NFL's San Francisco 49ers (1949–1950) and the AAFC/NFL's Baltimore Colts (1950). After the Colts franchise folded in 1950, he was declared draft-eligible and was subsequently drafted in the tenth round of the 1951 NFL draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He scored the 49ers final touchdown in the All-American Football Conference, as well as the team's first TD in the NFL. The 1944 Tennessee Volunteers (variously Tennessee, UT, or the Vols) represented the University of Tennessee in the 1944 college football season. Playing as a member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC), the team was led by head coach John Barnhill, in his third year, and played their home games at Shields–Watkins Field in Knoxville, Tennessee. The Pacific Coast Conference (PCC) was a collegiate athletic conference in the United States which existed from 1915 to 1959. Though the Pac-12 Conference claims the PCC's history as part of its own, with eight of the ten PCC members (including all four original PCC charter members) in the Pac-12 for many years, the older league had a completely different charter and was disbanded in 1959 due to a major crisis and scandal.
