The 1944 Norman Naval Air Station Zoomers football team represented the Naval Air Station Norman during the 1944 college football season. The station was located in Norman, Oklahoma. The team compiled a 6–0 record, outscored opponents by a total of 144 to 40, and was ranked No. 13 in the final AP Poll. The Associated Press poll (AP poll) provides weekly rankings of the top 25 NCAA teams in one of three Division I college sports: football, men's basketball and women's basketball. The rankings are compiled by polling 62 sportswriters and broadcasters from across the nation. Each voter provides their own ranking of the top 25 teams, and the individual rankings are then combined to produce the national ranking by giving a team 25 points for a first place vote, 24 for a second place vote, and so on down to 1 point for a twenty-fifth place vote. 1944 Second Air Force Superbombers Football Team
The 1944 Second Air Force Superbombers football team represented the Second Air Force during the 1944 college football season. The team, based in Colorado Springs, Colorado, compiled a 10–4–1 record, outscored opponents by a total of 513 to 76, and was ranked No. 20 in the final AP Poll. The team played many of the other leading service teams, losing to Randolph Field (No. 3 in the final AP Poll), Iowa Pre-Flight (No. 6), and Norman NAS (No. 14), and a Third Air Force team led by Charley Trippi. The Superbombers also played to a tie against March Field (No. 10). Major William B. "Red" Reese, who coached football and basketball at Eastern Washington College before the war, was the team's head coach.
