Ernest Alley
Ernest Hayes "Herc" Alley (June 4, 1904 – August 24, 1971) was an American football player, track athlete, and coach. He served as head men's track coach at Vanderbilt University from 1949 to 1971. FirstBank Stadium (formerly Dudley Field and Vanderbilt Stadium) is a football stadium located in Nashville, Tennessee. Completed in 1922 as the first stadium in the South to be used exclusively for college football, it is the home of the Vanderbilt University football team. Vanderbilt University (informally Vandy or VU) is a private research university in Nashville, Tennessee. 1943 College Football Season
The 1943 college football season was the 75th season of intercollegiate football in the United States. Competition included schools from the Big Ten Conference, the Pacific Coast Conference (PCC), the Southeastern Conference (SEC), the Big Six Conference, the Southwestern Conference, and numerous smaller conferences and independent programs. The season was played during World War II. The teams ranked highest in the final Associated Press poll in December 1942 were: # 1943 Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team - The Fighting Irish compiled a 9–1 and were ranked No. 1 in the final AP poll. They lost their final game of the season, a Chicago contest against No. 6 Great Lakes Navy. Fort Campbell is a United States Army installation located astride the Kentucky–Tennessee border between Hopkinsville, Kentucky and Clarksville, Tennessee (post address is located in Kentucky).
