1943 VFL Season
The 1943 VFL season was the 47th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. As in 1942, only eleven of the league's twelve clubs competed, with remaining in recess due to travel restrictions during World War II. The season ran from 8 May until 25 September, and comprised a 15-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The premiership was won by the Richmond Football Club for the fifth time, after it defeated by five points in the 1943 VFL Grand Final. Fred Fanning
Fred Fanning (5 November 1921 – 23 May 1993) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Melbourne Football Club, Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (1897–1989), Victorian Football League (VFL) who holds the record for most goals in a VFL/AFL match, with 18. Whitten Oval
Whitten Oval (also known as Mission Whitten Oval under a naming rights agreement) is a stadium in the inner-western suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located in Barkly Street, Footscray. It is the training and administrative headquarters of the Western Bulldogs (formerly the Footscray Football Club), which competes in the Australian Football League (AFL). The ground is also the home of the club's women's and reserves teams which compete in the AFL Women's (AFLW), Victorian Football League (VFL), and VFL Women's (VFLW). Formerly known as the Western Oval, the venue was renamed in honour of Ted Whitten in 1995, a former player, captain and coach for the club. Glenferrie Oval
Glenferrie Oval is an Australian rules football stadium located in Hawthorn, Victoria, Hawthorn, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
