The 193rd New York State Legislature, consisting of the New York State Senate and the New York State Assembly, met from January 6, 1999, to December 31, 2000, during the fifth and sixth years of George Pataki's governorship, in Albany. Background Under the provisions of the New York Constitution of 1938 and the U.S. Supreme Court decision to follow the One man, one vote rule, re-apportioned in 1992 by the Legislature, 61 Senators and 150 assemblymen were elected in single-seat districts for two-year terms. Senate and Assembly districts consisted of approximately the same number of inhabitants, the area being apportioned contiguously without restrictions regarding county boundaries. George Onorato
George Onorato (November 5, 1928 – February 21, 2015) was an American politician from New York. Life Onorato was born on November 5, 1928, in Astoria, Queens, New York City. He graduated from Long Island City High School. He served in the 118th Medical Battalion of the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952. He married Athena Georgakakos, and they had three children. He was Secretary and Treasurer of Local 41 of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers for 15 years, and entered politics as a Democrat. On June 28, 1983, he was elected to the New York State Senate, to fill the vacancy caused by the appointment of Anthony V. Gazzara as Chairman of the New York State Liquor Authority. Daniel Hevesi is a former American politician. Daniel Hevesi was born to Alan and Carol Hevesi. He has a sister, Laura, and a brother, Andrew. Daniel Hevesi contested the 1998 New York Senate elections, and won election from the 13th district. He faced Conservative Party candidate Walter Lamp in the 2000 election cycle. Frank Padavan (October 31, 1934 – October 8, 2018) was an American engineer and politician. He served as a New York state senator representing District 11, located in Queens County. His district included the communities of Queens Village, Flushing, Bayside, Whitestone, Douglaston, Little Neck, College Point, Bellerose, Hollis, Jamaica Estates, Floral Park, and Glen Oaks. Malcolm Anthony Smith (born August 9, 1956) is an American politician from New York who was convicted of public corruption. A Democrat, Smith represented the 10th district in the New York State Senate from 2000 to 2002 and Senate District 14 from 2003 to 2014. Smith served as New York State Senate Majority Leader in 2009 and as Temporary President of the New York State Senate from 2009 to 2010; he is the first African-American to hold those leadership positions. The New York State Court of Claims is the court of the New York State Unified Court System which handles all claims against the State of New York and certain state agencies. Dean George Skelos (born February 16, 1948) is an American former politician and convict from Long Island, New York. A Republican, Skelos served in the New York State Assembly and later represented the 9th district in the New York State Senate from 1985 through 2015. He served as Senate Majority Leader in 2008 and again from 2011 to 2015. Skelos forfeited his Senate seat when he was convicted on federal corruption charges in 2015.
