Pedro Abelino Aguirre Cerda (; February 6, 1879 – November 25, 1941) was a Chilean political figure, educator, and lawyer who served as the 22nd president of Chile from 1938 until his death in 1941. Ariostazo
The Ariostazo () occurred on August 25, 1939, and was a brief revolt of the Tacna artillery regiment, led by General Ariosto Herrera, in what turned out to be a non-violent attempt against the government of Chilean President Pedro Aguirre Cerda. Background Pedro Aguirre Cerda was elected and assumed as president on December 25, 1938, as the candidate of the Popular Front. He had narrowly defeated conservative candidate Gustavo Ross in the presidential elections of 1938. Jorge Toro
Jorge Luis Toro Sánchez (10 January 1939 – 16 February 2024) was a Chilean footballer who played as a midfielder. He represented his native country at the 1962 FIFA World Cup in Chile. He scored the second goal in Chile's 2-0 win over Italy at that tournament, in a match that is remembered as the Battle of Santiago. Toro died in El Quisco on 16 February 2024, at the age of 85. Hugo Omar Villanueva Clavería (9 April 1939 – 23 June 2024) was a Chilean football defender. He was in Chile’s squad for the 1966 FIFA World Cup. Alejandro Foxley
Alejandro Tomás Foxley Rioseco (born 26 May 1939 in Viña del Mar) is a Chilean economist and politician. He was the Foreign Minister of Chile from 2006 to 2009 and previously served as Minister of Finance from 1990 to 1994 and leader of the Christian Democrat Party from 1994 to 1996. Education and personal life Foxley received a Chemical Engineering degree from the Catholic University of Valparaíso and PhD in Economics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Luis Armando Eyzaguirre Silva (born 22 June 1939), also known as Fifo, is a former Chilean football player. Career Eyzaguirre played as a right-back in the Universidad de Chile football team known as the ''Ballet Azul'', with which he won five national championships. After, he spent four seasons with Huachipato (1968–1971) and ended his career with Ferroviarios in the Chilean second division. At international level, Eyzaguirre represented Chile at under-20 level in the 1958 South American Championship under Fernando Riera. At senior level, he played in 1959 Copa América and in the FIFA World Cup he achieved third place with the Chilean national selection for the 1962 FIFA World Cup and was one of the players involved in the Battle of Santiago incident during the Group 2 match between Chile and Italy. Humberto Cruz
Humberto Carlos Nelson Cruz Silva (, born 8 December 1939) is a Chilean retired footballer that played in two FIFA World Cups (1962, Chile third place, and 1966) as centre back, despite his short height. He also has been a close friend of Pelé since they played against each other in the 1960s. Claudio Huepe García (December 25, 1939 – May 11, 2009) was a Chilean politician, engineer and economist, member of the Christian Democrat party, who occupied several government and political positions.
