Kenneth Wiggins Maginnis, Baron Maginnis of Drumglass (born 21 January 1938), is a Northern Irish politician and life peer. Since December 2020, he has been suspended from the House of Lords, where he formerly sat for the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP). He was the Ulster Unionist Party Member of Parliament (MP) for Fermanagh and South Tyrone from 1983 to 2001. Background Maginnis was educated at Royal School Dungannon and at Stranmillis College. He worked as a teacher for a number of years before joining the Ulster Defence Regiment (UDR) in 1971. After leaving the British Army with the rank of major in 1981, he became the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) spokesman on internal security and defence, and was that same year elected to Dungannon District Council, on which he sat for twelve years until losing his seat in 1993. Dick Creith (born 28 August 1938) was a former Grand Prix motorcycle road racer from Bushmills. He competed in only two Grand Prix races during his career, the 1964 and 1965 500cc Ulster Grand Prix. Sir John Joseph Sheil (born 19 June 1938) is a retired Northern Irish judge. He was a High Court Judge of Northern Ireland from 1989 to 2004, and a Lord Justice of Appeal of Northern Ireland from 2004 to 2007. Early life and education Sheil was born on 19 June 1938. He was educated at Clongowes Wood College, an all-boys voluntary secondary school in County Kildare, Ireland where his twin brother, Fr. Michael Shiel SJ, is currently rector. He then studied at Queen's University Belfast and Trinity College Dublin. Career In 1964, Sheil was called to the bar of Northern Ireland and began practising as a barrister. He was made a Queen's Counsel (QC) in 1975. #he was Chairman of the Mental Health Review Tribunal from 1985 to 1987, and was a member of the Fair Employment Appeals Board from 1986 to 1989. May Blood, Baroness Blood, (26 May 1938 – 21 October 2022) was a British politician who was a member of the House of Lords, where she was a Labour peer, and the first peeress from Northern Ireland, from 31 July 1999 to 4 September 2018. Blood was a founding member of the Northern Ireland Women's Coalition (NIWC). She was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 1995 Birthday Honours "for services to Equal Opportunities and to Industrial Relations". Blood received an honorary D.Univ. from Ulster University in 1998, Queen's University of Belfast in 2000 and Open University in 2001. John Caldwell (7 May 1938 in Belfast – 10 July 2009) was an Irish boxer who won the bronze medal in the flyweight (– 51 kg) division at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne. Caldwell was considered a supreme fighter whose class and skill saw him claim a medal in 1956 and the world bantamweight crown in 1961. He enjoyed a magnificent career as an amateur and professional in which he contested 275 bouts, winning on all but ten occasions. William Raymond Hunter (3 April 1938 – 9 December 2020) was a Northern Irish cricketer and rugby union player. He played for Ireland in both sports. In cricket he won 28 international caps and played in 11 first-class matches. In rugby he played ten times for Ireland in the Five Nations, scoring one try. He also played for the British and Irish Lions. Early life Raymond Hunter was born in Belfast on 3 April 1938. He attended Wallace High School in Lisburn and played international hockey and football for the Ireland schoolboys teams. After leaving school he worked in insurance.
