1933 Baltic Cup
The 1933 Baltic Cup (football), Baltic Cup was held in Kaunas, Lithuania from 2 to 4 September 1933. It was the sixth time three Baltic states — Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania — came together to play a friendly tournament and determine the best team amongst them. Controversy Lithuania played Estonia first, the match was stopped due to darkness. On the next day Latvia beat Estonia. In the morning of the third day, before the Lithuania–Latvia match the hosts surprised officials with a tour to a local brewery. Estonian newspaper ''Päevaleht'' reported that the Finnish referee for the match was really jolly, but did horrible job, mostly favouring Lithuanian hosts. The match was stopped due to darkness and ended with a draw. The rules demanded that at least two wins were necessary to win the championship. Ēriks Pētersons
Ēriks Pētersons (1909 in Riga – 1987 in United States) was Latvian footballer and hockey player. Between 1929 and 1939 he played 63 international matches and scored 21 goals for Latvia national team. He also played in Latvian national ice hockey team, where he appeared in eight matches. After World War II Pētersons moved to United States. Biography Ēriks Pētersons was first noticed in 1928 when he moved from a third league team directly to the strongest football club in Latvia—Rīgas FK. He started as a center forward but soon changed his position on the field to central midfield in which he still retained his goal scoring abilities. All his career Pētersons played for a single club - RFK. He was the most capped Latvia international footballer before World War II—he participated in 63 of the total 99 matches Latvia played in this time period. The Nordic Football Championship ( da, Nordisk Mesterskab, no, Nordisk Mesterskap, sv, Nordiska Mästerskapet, fi, Pohjoismaiden-mestaruusturnaus, commonly abbreviated NM or PM) was an international football competition contested by the men's national football teams of the Nordic countries. In the first tournament played 1924-1928, only Denmark, Norway and Sweden competed, but Finland joined for the second tournament, and at the last tournament played in 2000-2001, Iceland and the Faroe Islands also competed. Balkan Cup
The Balkan Cup was an international association football competition contested on and off from 1929 to 1980 by countries from the Balkans region. The most successful team was Romania with four titles. Overview The first edition featured Romania, Greece, Yugoslavia and Bulgaria and was played over three years from 1929 to 1931. All teams played each other twice, home and away, and were awarded 2 points for a win and 1 point for a draw, with final ranking table determining the winner. Romania won the first title with a game in hand after beating Yugoslavia 4–2. In the following tournaments the system saw significant changes, with teams playing each other only once, and instead of taking three years to complete it was shortened to just a single week. Antanas Lingis (26 December 1905 – 6 June 1941) was a Lithuanian footballer who played as a forward for LFLS Kaunas and the Lithuania national team. For Lithuania he scored 12 goals in 33 appearances, which at the time was the record number of goals scored by an individual player for Lithuania. Alberts Šeibelis (26 December 1906 – 12 April 1972) was a Latvian footballer, one of the most popular Latvian footballers in the era before World War II. In 54 matches for Latvia he scored 14 goals Biography Šeibelis was born in the provincial town Sabile. In 1922 he joined the newly founded Rīgas FK which later became the dominant Latvian football club of the 1920s-30s. In RFK Šeibelis for a long time had to play with the reserves squad, however in 1925 he made his debut with the Latvia national football team which was looking to include more young players. In his first years Šeibelis more played as a forward but later he became a central midfielder. He organized both the defense and attack, and also scored goals. He was considered one of the best footballers of the Baltic States for several years.
