The Copa Ricardo Aldao (English: ''Ricardo Aldao Cup''), popularly called Campeonato Rioplatense and Copa Río de La Plata, was an official AFA- AUF football club competition contested annually, albeit irregularly, between the league champions of Argentina and Uruguay. The trophy was donated by Argentine football executive Ricardo Aldao (1863–1956), who would later become president of the Argentine Football Association. The cup is one of several inter-South American club competitions that have been organised on the continent. The first competition was scheduled for the 1913 season (although it was never played) and the last in 1955 (actually played in 1959, no champions proclaimed). The Copa Ricardo Aldao is seen today as the first stepping-stone into the creation of Copa Libertadores. 1929 saw the 35 teams that formed the Argentine Primera División, Primera División divided into two groups. The top 2 of each group qualified for the final stages of the tournament, which was eventually won by Club de Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, Gimnasia y Esgrima (LP). The season was marred by mass abandonment of games, defending Argentine champion Club Atlético Huracán, Huracán withdrew from 8 of its fixtures leaving them to finish in 14th place in the group. Several other teams withdrew from multiple games. Guillermo Stábile
Guillermo Stábile (17 January 1905 – 26 December 1966) was an Argentine professional football player and manager who played as a centre forward. At club level, Stábile won two national championships with Huracán and played in Italy and France. He was the top scorer of 1930 World Cup, the inaugural iteration of the tournament. As manager, he led Argentina to victory at six South American Championships and Racing Club to three league titles. Club career Early career Stábile was born in Parque Patricios, Buenos Aires. Club Atlético Huracán () is an Argentine sports club from the Parque Patricios neighbourhood of Buenos Aires.
