Olof Palme
Sven Olof Joachim Palme (; ; 30 January 1927 – 28 February 1986) was a Swedish politician and statesman who served as Prime Minister of Sweden from 1969 to 1976 and 1982 to 1986. Palme led the Swedish Social Democratic Party from 1969 until his assassination in 1986. A longtime protégé of Prime Minister Tage Erlander, he became Prime Minister of Sweden in 1969, heading a Privy Council Government. He left office after failing to form a government after the 1976 general election, which ended 40 years of unbroken rule by the Social Democratic Party. While Leader of the Opposition, he served as special mediator of the United Nations in the Iran–Iraq War, and was President of the Nordic Council in 1979. Karl Oskar Medin (14 August 1847 – 24 December 1927) was a Swedish pediatrician. He was born at Axberg, Örebro and died in Stockholm. He is most famous for his study of poliomyelitis, a condition sometimes known as the Heine-Medin disease, named after Medin and another physician, Jakob Heine. Magnus Gustaf "Gösta" Mittag-Leffler (16 March 1846 – 7 July 1927) was a Swedish mathematician. His mathematical contributions are connected chiefly with the theory of functions, which today is called complex analysis. Biography Mittag-Leffler was born in Stockholm, son of the school principal John Olof Leffler and Gustava Wilhelmina Mittag; he later added his mother's maiden name to his paternal surname. His sister was the writer Anne Charlotte Leffler. He matriculated at Uppsala University in 1865, completed his PhD in 1872 and became docent at the university the same year. He was also curator (chairman) of the Stockholms nation (1872–1873). He next traveled to Paris, Göttingen and Berlin, studying under Weierstrass in the latter place. Kjell Uno Jörgen Tånnander (born 25 June 1927) is a Swedish retired decathlete who won a bronze medal at the 1950 European Athletics Championships. Elov V Persson (10 July 1894 – 9 July 1970) was a Swedish comic artist. He created one of Sweden's most popular comic strips, '' Kronblom''. Born in Hästbo, a dispersed settlement in Hofors Municipality, Gästrikland, Elov Persson created ''Kronblom'' in 1927 and the strip was published in the magazine ''Vårt Hem''. A year after the creation of ''Kronblom'', Persson created another comic strip, '' Agust och Lotta'' (August and Lotta). ''Kronblom'' was such a part of Sweden's popular culture that two live-action film versions were produced, ' in 1947 and ' in 1949, with popular star Ludde Gentzel, 62 years old at the time of the first film's production, playing the slow-moving, but quick-thinking title character.
